Buying a pickup. Can't register on farang name?

Hi ya all I'm going to buy secondhand pickup,asked it to be registered in my name was told cant do farang cant own car in Thailand why is this.

My Car and motorbike are registered in my name  ~~~ in fact they are the only things that are!!

Immigration wont issue 'The Letter' on an 'Entrystamp'

Ok i have Non O, "Immigration"  "The Letter" is this for proof of address,i can register the pickup in my girlfrinds name and next time i go to Immigration ask for is letter and then re-register in my name,i should have asked these questions before as we were at Korat Immigration yesterday.

If the car is already registered in your girlfriends name, it is NOT just a simple matter of transferring to you. The land transport office will treat it as a sale from your girlfriend and a purchase by you and you will be taxed.

If your girlfriend has not already registered ownership, then you can do it with "the letter"

The said letter nowadays costs 500 baht & is valid for 28 days........If the vehicle is on the drip( new or sec hand) you wont be able to put it into your name........

When I bought my pick up 2nd hand ,all it cost to transfer the ownership to me was 1500baht.

I believe that when ownership of a car is transferred, there is a transfer tax payable, based upon the perceived value of he car + a fee for carrying out the transfer.

The same system applies when transferring ownership of land.

The rules for buying a new or 2nd hand car require a farang to have a non-immigrant visa and a work permit or letter of residence. The rules are relaxed for motorcycles, when a tourist visa will suffice.

Fcuk Me,you were quite willing to travel to Pattaya & back in it during the days you had the trusty old NV!!!
