That's one thing I dislike about 3bb. When the packages are upgraded they automatically give it to you. There is no option to keep the same package for the new, cheaper, price.

I have absolutely no need for speeds in excess of 500 Mbps. 100 Mbps is ample and would rather be given the option to keep the same speed for the new price.

@Starman: AFAIK you can ring the call centre and change your package no problem see this post from TV.

This is what happened to us. We had 30Mbps. We were told at the time that we could not have 50Mbps as we were too far from the nearest junction box.

The packages that 3BB offered were upgraded. Our package was now 50Mbps and not 30. We were, as previously informed, unable to receive 50 and were still getting 30. The next bill arrived and I noticed that it said 50Mbps on it. A quick speed test showed we were only getting 30.

I went to the shop and asked what was going on. After a lot of toing and froing they admitted that it was an automatic upgrade by their computer, after having insisted that it was I that had requested an update.

The end result was that we were given 2 months free internet and the following months have been charged at the 30Mbps rate. So, in the end, not any real problem but a lot of time wasting.

I asked them as to why the upgrade without informing the customer or offering an alternative. They did not have an answer for that.

Fair enough. I think I would have also been a little miffed as I hate having my time wasted.

Hi we upgraded our 3bb package a few months ago from 700 bht month  to fiber optic 970 bht( approx) when they came to change it we got a bigger modem which they wired from the house to where i wanted it, my question is should they also of re- wired from the house to the pole on the road.  I get a Download of 48.63  and Upload of 49.28 which i dont  understand a lot about, i remember the man saying when testing it, the low reading is because is an old laptop, 7 years old,   oldmanwithstick

Hi  Bonghead, I too have that package. They rewired from about 50 mtr away( main box) to our pole then into the house. I did check it was optical as he showed me the very fine optic cable. He also took down the old VDSL line from our house to our pole on the street. Just tested it now with a 10 year old MacBook and also Ipad, and both came up with about 300/300 upload / download on the 5 G band. The new modem has twin freq, standard 2.4 G and 5 Gig. The 2.4 G has a limit of only about 50/50 while with the 5 G should give you what your package is. Maybe you should check this. Hope this helps.

Here is a link to an Internet speed test website that we use in Canada and the US. It?s quite popular. I?m sure there are others.  You can change the provider. It doesn?t really matter.
Yes, free to use.  Also,  your laptop would probably not be capable of the newer speeds. Once you start getting into GB?s.  Plugging in directly to the modem will provide better results than WiFi.

Hope that helps. Ahh, one other thing.  There?s a big difference between theoretical, perfect world conditions that they market to us and attainable, the results we actually get.

Bonghead, when you look to see what Wi-Fi?s are around you using your device, you will notice that you now have your wifi and a second one in your name with 5G . Should be the same password. Connect to it and then using PolarAttack? s suggestion for ? Speedtest? check it out yourself. Basically you get a longer range with the standard 2.4 GHz band and faster speeds at short range with the 5Ghz band. Let us know how you go.

3BB can not change your contract. You have to do that yourself. They can only give you more speed for the same price.

Bonghead, now I think I understand your dilemma. If they didn?t replace the cable to your house, then I think you have ? fibre to node? then ? copper to house? instead of ? fibre to household?. My router supplied by 3bb is called a ? optical router with dual band wifi?.Huawei HG8M8145VG03. Check your router to see if it an optical one. I have called 3 bb several times with assorted problems ( connecting cctv and dvr , port forwarding issues) and an English speaker will ring you back. They were very helpful with good knowledge of the system. If not sure, I would definitely ring them.

It must be an old message board. It does the same for me. Also, an inverted comma is an apostrophe  crazydance  after you said ?node? I figured you knew what you?re talking about.  I haven?t heard others call it by name. I?m an old Frames Tech who spent a lot of time with twisted pairs. Well, before fibre & SAC boxes.
