Thai Consulates in Lao closures next week.

Heads up anyone fixing to run to the thai consulates in Lao (Vientiane & Savannakhet)

They are closed next week on Monday the 4th and Tuesday the 5th.

Immigration offices country wide are open on the 4th but closed on the 5th which is วันดินโลก..

Plan accordingly.

I think you'll find offices are closed on the fifth because it is Fathers' Day, being the birthday of the recently decease King Rama 9, rather than World Earth Day.

The consulate in Savannakeht and embassy in Vientiene  are closed on 4th as it is a substitution for National Lao Day, which is actually tomorrow.

As an aside, Monday 11th December is also a holiday. It is a substitute for Constitution Day which is on Sunday 10th.

How about you google what the 5th encompasses now that Rama 9 is dead. It is most definitely been renamed as วันดืนโลก.

And how about taking my postings consulate closures as helpful rather than tryin' to bust my balls all the time ?

Anyway, World Earth Day is a world wide event and has been going since 2014. 5th of December has been a holiday in Thailand for a lot longer than that, for the reason I stated above.

I think you'll find that it is now referred to as "
King Bhumibol Adulyadej?s Birthday Anniversary" although the Thai people still affectionately refer to it as Fathers' Day.

Soil or earth....same thing. If you look at other countries, as it is world wide and not just in Thailand, it is often referred to as Earth Day.
