Gas Tank for Hob/Stove?
« on: July 10, 2017, 07:38:16 PM »
Hi folks,

The wife and I are still trying to get settled into our place and have the Thai standard, two-burner, gas stove/hob for our outdoor kitchen (spices stir-fries, etc.) We're finding the "ask someone" methodology is not working too well. My understanding is we have to purchase a tank (hopefully filled with gas) then take it to either the same place we bought it from, or to a "refill only" place to refill it as we use it up.

Can anyone point me to where I can buy a gas tank for our two-burner, counter-top, stove/hob?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure where you are but drive through any town and you will see the shops with the gas bottles stacked up. Lap Plait Mat has at least 4 places I know of and I'm sure more.

Hi Freddy, thanks for the reply.

I'm in Buriram, basically in a little moo baan down a soi that's across the road from Global House. So I'm looking for a place in or near Buriram town (Meuang Buriram?). Sorry, I should have mentioned where I am/where I'm looking.

Do you know of anywhere here in Buriram town?

Thanks again.

Sorry but I don't know for Buriram. Give it a few minutes and I'm sure the Buriram residents will advise.
If they don't, best bet is to drive through to the actual town and just cruise a few streets. You'll see many stores with the gas bottles outside. Any of them will do the exchange for you.

Hank, Try here.  Haven't bought there as our normal place business is being rebuilt.

But as Freddy says, they are all over the place.

If you are going to put the bottle next to the cooktop, consider getting a rollers to set it on.  The place will sell or homepro/makro, etc.

You will also need an adapter, they will sell them, as about most store (e.g., Big C, Homepro, etc.)

Awesome! Thanks urleft! I will head over there first thing tomorrow.

Yes, I already have a regulator (bought one with a gas gauge) and a hose. I'll just have to head out to the MIL's to get my tool box (that just so happens to have a little teflon tape too) where most of the stuff I had shipped over from the US is stored. That way I can hook everything up.

Thanks again urleft and thanks again Freddy for such a quick response.

Cheers,
Hank!

Directly behind the bus station is one, on the left just across the railway line from the private hospital is another, diagonally across from the Bamboo in the road going back to the bus station is another.I have pointed out these three as their tanks are in good condition.

The first tank will cost you in the region of 2500 baht as you actually have to pay for the tank too. Subsequent tanks will be around 370, as you exchange the empty for a full one.

I'm always pleasantly surprised at how long they last when you consider that ThainWomen are constantly cooking!!

Hey Starman, thanks for the extra info. I appreciate the heads up on the prices too. That's always good to know.

Yes Freddy, my wife is always doing this or that in the kitchen. That's why I rejected the "package" regulator/valve/hose package and bought a separate regulator/valve with a built-in gauge. Even though the tanks may last a long time, it's nice to know when you're about to run out.

Although she claims she never really cooked much growing up, my wife is an excellent cook. When we remodeled our kitchen back in the US, I had some friends over and she did a 10-course Thai meal that my friends were raving about a couple of years later. I'm really looking forward to some home-cooked meals again. (We're just getting settled into our rental house and we're getting tired of take out or going to road-side restaurants that can be hit-or-miss.)

Thanks again folks. Looks like I'm having some spicy Pad Pak Boong (stir-fried morning glory) tomorrow for dinner!

Not in our house. Not with our pie oven on about 10  hours a day. We probably get through 4 a month.

Hank, I appologize as I put the wrong place, I meant to note the place Starman mentioned about just south of the RR tracks from the Private Hospital.  Here is the correct map.
