I've not had surgery in Thailand however I had a mild stroke 18 months ago and was treated at the Bangkok hospital in Korat. I now visit this hospital every 8 weeks for a check-up/blood tests etc.
Appreciate a bit of a trek but the hospital is excellent.

Thanks Freddy,

I wanted to have the operation at a "Local" Hospital as it would be very convenient, but I will not.

I will not elaborate what happened today or which Hospital it was, but that Hospital will not get any more visits from me, and please note: this was NOT a Government Hospital.

I just talked to my insurance and for them it Doesn't matter which Hospital I choose, they will pay anyway.

My choices at the moment are, Bangkok Pattaya Hospital (which diagnosed the Hernia around 1.5 years ago), Bangkok Khon Kaen or as you said Bangkok Korat.

Thanks

Thanks appreciated.

After talking to the wife and the BIL (he needs to drive us back from the Hospital after the operation) I think it will be Bkk Korat. As its easier to get to.

Well I've only had experience of the A&E, ICU & the Neurology Department but if the general surgery dept compares then I think you'll have confidence and be well looked after.

Mike is your insurance Bupa by chance?  Do you have to pay first then file for reimbursement?  I ask because I have Bupa but the hospital in Buriram is the one listed as primary.

Hi,

No I have a so called expat living abroad insurance from my home country.

My Insurance doesn't care which hospital I goto, but travel cost to go there I have to pay myself ;)

Outpatient I have to pay myself and file for reimbursement (they pay within 1 week), but inpatient they pay the hospital direct.

I have had surgery at Buriram government hospital twice.

Both times the service was very professional.

Starman,

How long did you have to wait for the surgery after the initial visit to the Doctor ?

My BIL son needs surgery and he got quoted 3-4 months waiting time.

10 hours. They needed to wait that long as I needed a general anesthetic.

It was a result of an accident so treated as an emergency.
