converting tourist triple entry visa to type o visa

Ok sorry to cover what i am sure is old ground but i just need some clear concise information here as everything changes when i look by the week it seems
I have just arrived at lahansai and am now married to my beautiful wife (thai) and want to know where to go to alter my tourist triple entry visa to a 12 month type o visa and what requirements there are
I have a bank account now (KASIKORN BANK) WITH 400000 baht in but do not intend to work here as my wife will work in our salon to support us
with my triple entry tourist visa i assume i need to do a visa run after 2 months is there any need for me to report to immigration before this time ?
also where is the closest immigration office to lahan sai that are friendly if possible hehe

Roy, I am not 100% sure but I thought I would try and bump the thread until someone knowledgeable comes along.....


I don't believe Kap Choeng will do it so, I think that you will have to go to Bangkok (Chaeng Wattana)  with everything you need for a Non-Immigrant O visa based on marriage, In reality most people will take the whole shooting match as if they were doing an extension based on marriage. This is because CW have been known to by-pass the Non O and just issue a 12 month extension,

You will undoubtedly need to go twice (once to submit and once to receive the Non-Imm O, or Marriage Extension). Suggest you visit early in the last month of your current permission to stay.

You can always post the question on Thai Visa.com where there are a number of visa experts. This is a good website and lists everything you will need. Don't forget about the 'seasoning' of the bank balance for 2 months.:-

Thanks CO-CO didnt want to go back to bkk if i could help it and i was planning on waiting out the 2 months seasoning of the bank account then applying right away to allow time for unforseen hiccups i will keep bumping and hopefully somebody will come along who has done the same as me at kap choeng (korat)?
i read somewhere that the kasikorn bank isnt accepted as proof of funds is this correct ?
obviously this will entail a visa run lol

Kasikorn is fine.

NOT. Korat (Dan Kwian) Kap Choeng near Chong Chom border is your local. immigration office.

Try and speak to Croc, Tel Boy or Richard the Baker all from Lahansai and know the form.

Call into KC by all means to seek their advice but I am sure you will need to go to CW.

I went from a tourist visa to a Retirement, it was done at Korat (KCI was not open) in Nov 2011. 

Advice, go early, like now.  You have to have something like 21 days left on your visa to change it. 

Also, fill out as much as the paperwork you can beforehand.  Make sure you have probably 6 photos (yes probably only need 3 or 4, but have extra just in case). 

No age for you listed, but if you are 50 and over you can get a retirement visa (less paperwork). 

As far as income/money in the bank, it has to be there for more than 3 months, 800K is needed for Retirement, I think 400K is OK for Marriage but have not personally done it.  An alternative is to go to your Embassy and get a statement of income of over 60K baht a month.

Earlier posts suggest that Roy is under 50 and has put 400,000 Baht in the bank. Doesn't want to arse about showing income.

Just add - KCI = Kap Choeng Immigration.

My situation is mariage/retirement.  Question:  Does the money have to be in Thai bank, and do you have to show proof every time you renew?

Yes and yes.

But.... you can never be 100% sure what each immigration office/officer will do.

The relevant Police Order states that the 400k must be held in a Thai bank account and it must have been held for 2 months (for marriage, 3 months for retirement). Proving 65,000 Baht is an alternative for retirement (40,000 p.m. for marriage extension!!). The book of words says you can mix income and bank deposit for retirement i.e. 200,000 Baht in the bank and income 32,500 Baht. This option is not offered for marriage extensions ... but, I have heard of immigration accepting a mix on occasions.

I am under retirement age (43) and yes i dont actually have an income i am hoping my wife will provide this from our business (salon here) but i am prepared to keep the minimum required 800,000 baht in a bank account in preperation for retirement but until then i will be requiring firstly to change from triple entry tourist to type o visa then later will need to apply for extensions every year

Not sure of the procedure for other embassies. 

Another option for you to expand your time is to make "Visa Runs" to Laos or Cambodia (which is just past KCI) to make sure you get to the time requirements for the money in the bank.

That is everytime you get a visa, the income requirement is not part of the 90 day check in.

Also when you get your very first 'visa', there is an application which gives you 90 days while the Thai GVT does some checks on you, they you go back and get the 1 year, both require income verification.

Ray, how about leading the way on proper English.  The contraction it's means "it is" while its is possessive and would have been the proper word.
