Author Topic: Bicyling aroung Buriram (Read 25044 times)

Last year I bought myself a trail bike. I put a lot of miles around the village and checking out back roads. I would also ride the bike to Fit Fit Fit.

Unfortunatey the abuse to my body over the years (e.g., being a paratrooper) has taken its toll, my knees cannot handle running anymore.

I tried to increase the distances on my bike, have realized it is not a street bicycle but very good for around the local area.

I went to guy at the back side of the bus station to buy a used road bike. Unfortunately between him and my TG I was maneuvered onto a new road bike. I went for decent, not a super model. WOW, what a difference.

I take what I call the loop, I start at 219 just north of the 288 intersection, travel south to the entire loop, back to 219 and then just north to Ban Yang (home). Did it in an just over an hour. With the new bike I easily cruise at 20+ KPH (I was lucky to do 15 KPH with the mountain bike).

But to the point. Any bike riders out there that need some exercise?

I hope to increase my stamina to 50+ kilos, and it is better to have someone with you helping.

Anyone in the Buriram City Interested? I am both for road work (new bike), and exploring new roads (mountain bike).

If there is interest I will come up with times and meeting places.

To find out all about cycling around Buriram why not stop in and see Ron at Ice Furniture (shop marked on BE map)

There is a huge cycling fraternity in Buriram both mountain and road bikes.

I am sure you would be made very welcome.

In another posted I failed to mention that 219 extends about 8 KM past the 288 intersection. So there is only about 15 km of 2 lane between Buriram and Satuk. When they get 4 lane, that would be a great ride with a road bike. I may try regardless in the next month.

However, I also love the trail bike, amazing the places you can see, and back roads you can visit. A GPS really helps.

For local riding they look like they could handle it. I have had about a dozen flats on my trail bike.

But if you want to participate in long rides, a mountain/trail bike is only for real men, and road bike will leave them in the dust.

Very little response here.

But as info, I had been doing what I call the "loop" which is basically riding around Buriram on 288/219. I have found it is better to go west bound from the 288/219 intersection (just NE of Buriram). The reason is that as you go over the RR overpass westbound, you can really gain speed, but eastbound you have to watch out for the light at 2151/288.

It is about 20 KMs around. A good starter ride.
