Bread yeast
« on: August 30, 2012, 12:04:33 PM »
Before I build a bread oven, can I buy bread yeast, bakers' yeast anywhere nearby? I see that stone ground whole meal flour is available, which means to me that there are people  making bread?

My sister in law lives in Lahansai, Buriram and makes donuts for a living, selling them at the evening markets (Lahansai, Ban Kruat, Prachonchai, etc.). I know that she uses yeast for making the donuts so it must be available. She gets her yeast in Lahansai and Khorat so I am sure it is available.

I get my yeast in Makro, I have seen it in both Buriram and Surin, my wife recently bought me a packet of dried yeast in Prakhonchai.
I always use the dried stuff....

Thanks, I missed that in Macro, I'll look a bit closer next time... not baking soda, of course?

There are usually several brands, on the opposite side of the aisle from the Flour, close to the large packets of jam, shortening etc...

Good luck

How are you planning to build a bread oven, do you have any plans you could post on here, I would like to see.

If it looks easy, I might bring fresh bread to Prakhonchai (unless this is your plan)!!

Thanks for the offer! It will be some time before I will be getting consistent results for my bread. I don't have plans as yet but it will look like a Pizza oven, basically, it is a pizza oven. I will be designing for a maximum of 2 Kg at a time. Plenty of designs on internet.
I am the mad Farang, and will be making my own bricks, which is the only useful purpose I can see for the stuff they call soil around here, so 'ang on a mo', mate, my wife might want me to get her a new kitchen first.
