GPS for car

Where is a good place to buy a GPS unit. I would like a shop that has a demo unit set up.

Check the home page. I thought Buriram Expats shop sold them????

Garmin seem to be the brand leaders over here but ESRI seem to be the maps to get. I have  a Mio C520 unit for over 4 years and am pleased with that.

A TIP: ensure whatever unit is preinstalled with the latest version of the mapping system.

I also use ' offline' maps on my iphone and they are free!

Try the book shop in Big C. They had some in last time I looked.

What we using now is Garmin Nuvi 2465, it's quite good and have map in English but maybe they have newer one already.

We order from Eagle GPS Thailand in Chiangmai and get it by mail.

Lots of useful information, but as Ron Texas asked, does anyone know where we can see  some of the units on display?

Even Pantip plaza has only 2 or 3 shops with them so most unlikely in Buriram/Surin other than some cheapie Thai versions. Probably best to check a friends unit.

I like to help but too far away from PK & B'ram  to help, sorry.

Looks like we now have a valid reason to go to Pattaya!

No reason or need to see the unit before purchasing it, those days are gone.
Find the unit on the internet (If Garmin, go to garmin thailand site),
get an impression of most units via youtube where many product reviews videos are posted.
No surprises if you buy new and ensure on the phone/email you want the ENGLISH language version.

Good luck. sawadi

What kind of aftermarket support does BE provide for purchased Garmins?  Such as downloading map updates?

All units we sold have 1 year warranty but I think Mod does not sell GPS units anymore but you may ask him directly.

All LEGAL updates can be purchased directly at GPS SOCIETY: http://www.gpssociety.com/EN/
Contact details: http://www.gpssociety.com/EN/Pages/wheretobuy.aspx
As you purchased the Garmin with Original maps you will be able to buy only the update and not pay full price for a new map.
You will get a CD and exact instructions how to install the new map into your GPS unit by using USB cable connect to pc.

I've just bought a Garmin Nuvi 2575 with a video camera for 13,000 Bht from Eagle.co.th (as below). It has free updates for life with this and some other models! I've used GPS maps all over the world to include deserts and the arctic always use Garmin.

Sounds good Jamaw.

Is the video camera necessary? I suppose it could come in handy if someone cuts in front of you and causes an accident.
