Hi

Didn't 711 buy the lease to stop Tesco Lotus opening up, or maybe this is a different property?

Anyone know?

Most likely none. Tesco is not Tops / Gourmet Market. The only tesco I liked so far is in Korat city center which has some farang food. However, in any given day, I'd prefer Tesco over Big C.

The Tesco Xpress shops that are popping up everywhere are just 7/11 with a little extra fresh meat/bakery products but its better than nothing, is it not?

There is a thread similar to this on a national forum where  Buriram is portrayed as the one place where you can get a fix of farang food without all of the big named stores.

Dont really understand why Nobby uses the phrase "better than nothing" when it appears that we have a large choice.

Sorry, that was not my intention. I am more a 'Pint pot is half FULL' kinda guy and grateful for more choice.

Is this thread referring to a full blown Tesco Lotus or just a piddly Tesco Express, which are dotted throughout Buriram province

They have tesco express in almost every towncenter of Buriram, why bother opening an express in city center? They should open a big one, not tesco express. I really don't like Big C and I don't want to drive 160km (one way) to Korat every 2 weeks.

Have you tried Makro?  Good for many things and often better than Big C and Tesco Lotus

There is a Tesco in Surin as well which is much closer... only 40kms away from Buriram town.
Isn't it the same type of Tesco store (selection) as in Korat?

There are 2 tesco Lotus in Surin. The first one is big and opened before Big C. However it is a disaster -never opened with a dairy counter, veg, meat or fish. Once Big C opened, they tried to introduce these lines, but they had lost their following. It is OK for clothes and electrical goods. The 2nd is a tesco market, which sells fresh food, and is in Surin Plaza. That's OK

I suspect the Buriram tesco express is a fore-runner to a large store some time in the future.
