Also note that military installations are gun free zones, soldiers are not trusted to carry per BJ Clinton.

Is that the same BJ Clinton who was entrusted with the oval office?

Interesting article in the Washington Post that quotes justice Stevens (an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the USA for some 35 years giving an argument that adding five extra words to the second amendment would fix it.

It's a bit long but well worth the read.

I have long pondered over the second amendment.
Second Amendment provides that “a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
The first bit about 'a well regulated militia' is usually left out by NRA members. I can't imagine a situation where people with 38's  and hunting rifles would be of any use against a modern day, well equipped army.
It doesn't say
'A well regulated militia is necessary.' (period),
'The right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed'.
America was a collection of scattered rural settlements in the 1770's and didn't have the money to maintain a standing army. It was when the Brits tried to confiscate arms from the colonists that the militias were formed to fight back.
Having said all that, I would have no qualms about shooting, stabbing, or clubbing any bad guy that I found inside my house.
I just dislike this constant harking back to the second amendment.

We all have our crazies.  But in Thailand, a place where you can not own a gun to protect yourself, I see more gun related deaths in the news than here in the USA.  Gun ownership works.  Just how to keep them out of the hands of the crazies is the hard part. wildman

gun ownership does work...if you want to shoot people, Australia has strict gun control..result extremely low gun death rate...but i guess comparing USA to Thailand is applicable...apple's oranges and that kind of  stuff. whistle
