Translated Passport to Register Your Marriage in Buriram

Last Month getting Married in Thailand  , visited my own country's consulate in Bangkok, got the required doc's, got the notorised translations, took the trip to the Dept. of Foreign Affairs, got everything signed and stamped.  Then thought we'll head up to Buriram to register the marriage in my wifes local amphor office so her family could go with us.  In the office in Bangkok they said it made no difference if i registered in Bangkok or Buriram so off we went.  After a few days with the soon-to-be inlaws    we all went down to the amphor office in buriram and where they told us I needed to get the photo page of my passport translated into Thai, notorised and then stamped by the Dept. of Foreign affairs before they could register the marriage in Buriram.    Has anyone else heard of this requirement ? They seemed a little too happy to give me the bad news  (and not the typically thai shy apologetic type of smile either) .. We phoned the office in Bangkok, they did not know why Buriram wanted this extra info., but advised us to return to Bangkok to register in any of the amphors there with the documents we already had. Everything in Bangkok amphor went fine.   . . .  So I just thought I'd let you all know.  Buriram officials don't want to register the marriage, or at least mine anyway.

Why do you want it registered in Buriram? If you are married in BKK like everybody you don't need to register it in Buriram. When you need documents its fine if you take the papers that you are married in BKK. Its legal everywhere in Thailand.

So I see no point or advantage if you register it also in Buriram.

Im confused, you got the backup paperwork done in BKK and quite correctly you were told you can do the registration in BKK or Buriram(hometown).

This Amphur registration is the part that is legally binding worldwide, just like visiting a Registery Office in UK to get married. I did it in Surin and was not asked for a translated passport page.
IF you cannot get round this stupid bit of 'red tape' , you could always get it translated by a Law Office locally (I could, if it were needed).

He did not originally get married in Bangkok. Only had all the papers processed there. He wanted to be married in Buriram but the local amphur buggered him about.

Like D the D, I had no problem marrying in my local amphur, and did not need translation of passport. 20 mins and 40bt was all that was required.

Hope he has better luck than me i did all that but got married at Khet Bang Rack = to ampher but in city then immigration said i did not have a wife after they had seen her and submitted all documents !!!

Maybe Amphor is the wrong word.  But the office where you go to register marriages in Buriram is what I meant.

Amphur is the right word and place to do it.
The Amphur office is located opposite the old Taweekit supercenter on Jira road, not far away from the roundabout.
