Western Food/Local supermarkets in Buriram.
« on: August 16, 2008, 09:18:24 PM »
As you all knows, living in Thailand, especially Isaan make it hard to find a GOOD farang food.
Its hard to get and know the kind of product in our local supermarket that is with the closest taste to our farang's flavour (home countries).
So,from time to time I'll post pictures and reviews of products.Promise to do my best. hungry1

Today,I'll review Maionezze, yes!!maionzze! as you all know Its hard to find a proper maionezze in Thailand, NON SWEET MAIONEZZE is a very difficult task, but don't worry !! I have made the hardest task and all for you -Buriramians   jumping8

I tried even "heinz" and couldn't believe it was SWEET !I don't know about you guys but its the first and only country I taste sweet maionezze..  confused1

This product you see in the picture "KRAFT" brand,is non sweet maionezze, and its even tastey !!go for it.I guarantee!!  happy2

LOCATION : Tu-Vikit / V-Mart: Shelf Line 3 from the left.53 Baht.   ::)

The bread you see in the picture is also from Tu-Vikit and is OK,made from Mix flour and kind of ok,the only problem with this bread is that it get dry so fast!even if you buy it on the very same moment they bake it. (you've been warned.. ;) ).

LOCATION : Tu-Vikit / V-Mart: Bakery section. 75 Baht

* Best place to buy bread is BIG-C ; ie:Baguettes,buns,etc,etc.. At the Bakery section in Big-C.

** For home made products (kind of farang OTOP..hehe..)There are very good products some French or thai are making and sold at the milk freezer (Vegetable section) products such as: Mustard,Pickels, pickeled fishes europe style,Liver patte, etc, etc.
Not expensive either, average of 70 B/Jar.

Daily sandwich..
Tunisian Tuna sandwich..  hungry1

Tunisians take the use of tuna to a new level (and it also helps that their canned variety of tuna is quite different and very tasty--very much like quality Italian canned tuna varieties.) In sandwich form, the Baguette is filled with tuna, harissa, olives, cucumbers and onions.
Sometimes with boiled egg also.
This is my Isaan Tunisia sandwich. (Olives on the side but no photo..sorry.).
 >:D

BTW- "Tu-Vikit" is the only supermarket in Buriram that sells pickles, that include olives and cucambers pickled of course.

At Big-C have some black chinese olives but they taste way too salty  sick1 maybe they good for cut to small pieces and add to some green salad. but not my "cup of tea", however I bought them twice as I was lazy to go to "Tu-Vikit"..

Any inputs here??  love5

After 2 months of them not having any, Makro yesterday had real, yes real cheese !!!!!

New Zealand cheddar at Bt1400 for 2kg and some Aro local stuff for Bt700 or so for 2kg.

Sod's law is that I'm going away for a couple of weeks tomorrow and for sure there will not be any there when I get back. However, I don't really need 2kg of cheese and especially cheese I have not tasted. I was going to buy the NZ one but will see if I stop in Bangkok on the way back from Singapore and if so, I'll get some smaller amounts from Villa Market or that shop in Emporium.

Anyone tasted that NZ cheddar ?

New Zealand cheddar at Bt1400 for 2kg

700bt/kilo is rather expensive for basic NZ cheese. I always buy Mainland NZ Vintage, which is available in some of the larger Big C's and Lotus' at around 165bt a 250gm block (660bt/kg). However I always stock up when in Pattaya, buying 6-8kgs in Friendship supermarket at around 140bt a block (520bt/kg). Freezes well, (although has a shelf life of around 6 months as vacuum packed) and very tasty.

2 months ago bought Mainland Edam in Friendship (Buy 1, 1 free) which worked out at 320bt/kg. More like a cheddar than an Edam and also very tasty.

He's been doing that for years and don't miss a chance  laughbar. Proly the reason the FC has prospered (unlike some locations that will remain nameless).
I would be far more blatent & 'in yer face' if it was my business  :D :D
