Weather
« on: July 21, 2021, 05:04:19 PM »
Weather has been good here recently. High 20s and early 30s.

I know that is nothing on Thailand and Isaan in particular.

Just wondering how people cope with 40+ day in day out for months on end.

I don't mean sitting in an air con room. When I finally move to Isaan I'm not intending to lock myself away indoors. I want to be outside.

What is then general consensus here?

Lock yourself in an aircon room.

Seriously.

In March/April it can get too hot to do anything...... get a decent TV box and watch some movies.

Plan B..... go to the seaside......still hot but probably 35 rather than 44.....maybe a breeze.

After 20 year you I've got used to it ( its only a few months when it gets very hot )
I have all the doors and windows open and have fans ( but Aircon in the bedroom at night to sleep )
Major rule is ...get up early if you have jobs to do in the hot months

Thanks Coco and Smithy.

I'm still not totally sure that I'll ever be ready for total retirement in Isaan. I don't have any hobbies as such so might be a bit bored from time to time.

I was thinking of living a dual lifestyle. That is some time in UK and some in Thaiiland.

Looks like March/April/May and June might be a good time to take my break in UK.

That dual living suits many people, some say 6 months on, six months off is ideal. It obviously depends on your own circumstances at either end. Most on here are 'all in' with Thailand and create a full time life here.

I can usually stick out until Songkran (although it gets hot from mid March usually).......2 months in the UK and Europe then back.

How have you coped this past 18 months? No travel to Europe, I assume?

I used to be a frequent traveler - UK/Europe at least once a year + alternate Christmas visits + many trips around Asia.

My last trip was to Sri Lanka in March 2019......just as Covid was kicking off.

As I get older I fully expect that my appetite for international trips will wane; Covid has arguably accelerated that - it was unheard of for me to not have an airport stamp in my passport for 18 months!  :)

It is quite likely that my next UK trip will be Xmas 2022, but I would like to get to Europe next Spring if possible.

Covid also has issues the other way; I have daughters who wanted to come to Thailand to visit and they are now hoping that they can get here in December. I am keeping a close eye on the Phuket Sandbox experiment  -  and also the rate of vaccination in Thailand!
