Samsung phones issue or?
« on: September 29, 2020, 11:15:01 AM »
Hello, I am a former IT person but not in this area. So if anyone has the same issues... I need an advice.
I have a 3BB cable in our home and their wifi router (transmits both 2.4 and 5G). My two iPhones and 1 laptop (got it locally) connected to 5G. And the connection is a very stable (beside occasionally blackouts from the outside) and always on. However my wife and my son have Samsung phones (2 years old phones and those support only 2.4G. Every day, 1-3 times per day their phones losing wifi connections. All the manipulations with WiFi/Airplane modes , etc. sometimes work. But most the time the only solution is to reboot the WiFi router, then WiFi for their phones is fine until next disconnection.
Not sure what it is. Any advices?
Bob

What is the Wifi Authentication Method in the router set to?

From Best to worst

    WPA2 + AES.
    WPA + AES.
WPA + TKIP/AES (TKIP is there as a fallback method)
    WPA + TKIP.
    WEP.
Open Network (no security at all)

Try lowering it and also you can try to increase the DHCP Lease time

I have WPN2-Personal. DHCP is in automatic set.
I works just fine with 5g but not with 2.4 on Samsung phones. However if I connect my laptop  or iPhones (can handle both)  to 2.4 network it is stable as well. So could it be Samsung issues? We have a different brand smartphone here and it works just fine as well. I have googled the issue but no luck yet.

Try lowering it to WPA+AES and you can increase the DHCP Lease time

In my 3BB router it's under LAN - DHCP Server Configuration - LEASE Time and mine is set to 3 HOURS, increase that

Edit: My guess is that they (samsung) can't handle the DHCP renewal correctly.

What you also can try is: Set the Samsungs to a static IP address and see if that solves your problem

Updates on the issue: I was ready to follow advices posted here but :
The problem, seems like disappeared (almost, now this happens rarely)  I could be wrong but I guess it is a number of connections allowed by 3BB router?/account?. I have too many connections active. My laptop, WiFi TV, Kindle, 2 iPhones, and 3 other smartphones. 8 in total. Looks like when I have any 2 connections down then the others stay good and sounds unless I have all 8 back on.
Have to do more research. Thanks.

You should check if the DHCP range in your router is set to a LOW level.

Mine is set from 192.168.1.2 - 192.68.1.254 so room for 252 connections.

I have at least 15 connections to my Router with all our connected devices (TV's, Media Players, Phones, PC's etc) and no problem connecting any devices

(edit: BIL just came and his phone also connected to our wifi without a problem)

Can't edit my post anymore, but currently I have 11 connections to my router at the moment and NOT 15 as I said in my previous post.

Thanks man, My IP range is the same as yours. However I just have DHCP lease time increased, as per you advice, from 3 hours to 24. Will see. Thanks for your help. I'll post the outcomes.

Also I see for 2.4 GHz max numbers of WLAN Channels set to 11 and for 5GHz is 44 (no way to change). Just FYI.

If it does not work I will reserve IP addresses through DHCP for the MAC's. Let's see...
