Can anyone tell me if they think it's a good idea to let gf family build small home for her or is it a recipe for disaster?

Post of the year ..... so far.

Reading it, I could feel the irony just dripping off  party13

Seriously though, a good topic that I'm sure will generate some serious comments.

IMHO Not a good idea, a good idea to have them as workers but not as the ones responsible building the house.

Why, if they fcuk up you have problems.

My advice hire outside contractors and let the family help and keep an eye out, much better.

I have used family of farang to provide building, I thought they were way high.

What is important to remember is that if using family, the TG will normally avoid confrontation and just live with their messing it up.  I use an independant builder while we don't share the language, we share concepts.  Many times I got my point across directly to him whereas my TW had no idea what I saying.  So I believe he and I have mutual respect for each other and work things through.  Towards the end of the main project my TW said the builder told the forman to do whatever the Farang wanted.

So for small project family may be OK, but if building a house I would recommend go with an independant builder.

I think I finally get through to the TW and taught her the golden rule:   "He with the gold rules."  She is more assertive now in dealing with contractors.
