Intro.
« on: May 22, 2013, 05:49:21 AM »
G'day all. yeah I know, another bloody Aussie.

Name is Mal, a young at heart 64. Home base is Burleigh, Gold Coast in Queensland. Have only just joined the club. I've been going to LOS since 2007, last count was about 18 trips.

I've driven pretty extensively to many areas of Thailand but as yet not visited the Buriram area, it's next on the list. From reading the forum over the past few months looks like it could be a good spot to consider for a home base. The plan is to relocate & retire in LOS early next year. I've  some good expat mates in Pattaya but don't feel I could make it home there.

A little about me.

Married a Thai girl in 2009 & immediately brought her to Oz. Brought the teenage daughters out shortly after. All going very well, so I thought. Working away for 2 or 3 weeks at a time in the construction industry trying to earn sufficient for good life here & support the extended family back in the village. Yes, I hear you say you know what's coming next, and your right, last year got traded in on a newer model. So, now alone & looking to start all over again. Most here consider I'm absolutely nuts heading back to LOS for retirement but I figure why not give it a try over there next time. I'll definitely never bring another back here except on maybe a tourist visa for a brief holiday. So, that's a bit about me.

I'll be looking for some advice & info down the track but seeing this is just an intro I'll leave it at that for now. Looking to catch up with some of you on my next trip, possibly in the next month or so.

Bye for now & Cheers to all.

Some sound advice Malt stay where you are and give this place a miss, keep your sanity and your money.
If you decide to come here the vermin will try and eat away at all you have.
Good luck and keep your hands in your pockets.

Antionio, mate....  you sound almost as bitter & twisted as I did when the ex dropped the bomb about the new model. Or was the warning somewhat tongue in cheek ? I'm pretty familiar with life in LOS so guess I'll give it a go... but thanks for the warning anyway.

Had a look at Nookies, looks like a 2nd home.   party4

Thanks Jason...  I'm with you.

Wow, sounds like you have a story.

However, I can see some of your point.  If Mal is coming here alone and does not speak Thai, this will be a very hard area to live.  But in the villiage I live there always TGs on the lookout for Farangs, they constantly ask my wife if I have any friends.

Also, if a guys comes here and has nothing to do, you kind of end up every day at some place like the Irish Bar.  Drinking and bitching about how this place sucks.  But if you get a good hobby or business, and have a great TG, life can be very good here.

No story to tell i have a good Thai wife, but after 11 years here watching all the crap that goes on day after day,i wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
Yes their are the odd few who have struck it lucky with good wifes/girlfriends,but very few and far between.
