I think 'go figure' is equivalent to  - 'gobsmacked'.  Not sure about any 'bastardizing'.

I tried my best!  Even went to the Cambridge Dictionary Online - used the auto translation tool to translate from 'American English' to 'British English' and it still came out that way!
