Would really hate to split hairs here but, adobe is actually the name of the brick and not the building.

For me, adobe is mud bricks OR entire walls (pressed earth). I helped make a home in Portugal.  I'm not sure that you can live in a brick.

Yes indeed. You would, however, need to say "adobe wall" or "adobe house". Agreed; you  cannot live in a brick, which is the correct definition for adobe.

Apologies all for the confusion / debate I have generated. I believe in "plain english speaking" especially when posting on a forum such as this where English is not everyone's first language. I don't use words like moratorium, ubiquitous or curmudgeons when a simpler & more obvious word will suffice. But that's just me
