I owned one for 8 years in the 80's

Fish & Chips was our biggest seller yesterday.

Very popular with most of the locals.

It was a real good business until they put VAT on Takeaway Food

Raping the North Sea, with resulting quotas, didn't help prices. Certainly, fooked Lowestoft as a fishing port.

In 30+ years of banking I never saw a chippie fail. They were very good cash businesses and if you did not take the p!ss out of HMRC with your gross margins you could cream off a decent amount of cash. Well run fish and chips in a good location were a gold mine.

Very good 'cash' business but there was a lot of consumer resistance the first few months after VAT was imposed,

Just because Fish and Chip shops in the UK were very popular, doesn't mean it was the best food available. In  very many cases it was little more than a means to an end, just as Mac'donalds, KFC,  Burger King and all that crap are today!

I can't understand why people come on this forum and spout forth about something that they have no interest in and even less knowledge.

Ever think why fish and chip shops were popular ?

Ever think why KFC, McD, Burger King and Subway are now popular.

Ever consider why curry houses are dying on their arses - along with many public houses.

Nookie is your man for fish and chip information.

Having run a business for 8 years he will have the 'inside track'.

I can only comment from a former bank manager's perspective and EVERY fish and chip that I had on my books did very well.

Here is some nutritional information:-
