True.As the saying goes " football is a funny old game" wasn't that a Greavsey saying? That said a bit of a drastic step for that fan to take.

Rooney Apologises To Manchester United Fans Over Pay Standoff
Friday, November 26, 2010

Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney has apologised to the fans of the Old Trafford club over his antics last month.

Rooney was involved in a stand-off with the club which while brief, threatened to cast a shadow over both his future and that of the club.

At some point the odds were short on Rooney leaving Old Trafford for a cross town contract at rival Manchester City.

The standoff was resolved after a meeting with club manager Sir Alex Ferguson which ended with Rooney getting a pay rise to a reported 220,000 pounds a week.

Rooney made good on a long reported intention to apologise after Manchester United’s win over Rangers n the Champions League two nights ago.

He said : "I feel like I have apologised to the fans but everyone keeps saying that I haven't. If that is the case, then I apologise for my side of things”.

He added that : "Everyone is saying that I was definitely going to Manchester City. Believe me if I had gone it wouldn't have been in England.

I have made my point clear since I signed my contract that I am committed to this club for the long term. I want to be successful here”.

Rooney also acknowledged that leaving Old Trafford could have been a risky move saying : "You see so many players leave this club and not do so well so I am delighted to have stayed”.
