Norway: Thailand 'Best Tourist Country'

Thailand has been voted the Best Tourist Country for the seventh consecutive year in a poll of more than 400 Norwegian tourist firms, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The award shows the popularity of Thailand among Norwegians despite the slowdown of global tourism last year, which in part affected the number of visitors to the country.

The ministry expects about 150,000 Norwegians to visit Thailand this year.

The number is considered a high proportion compared with Norway's population of 4.7 million, according to the Thai embassy in the Norwegian capital of Oslo.

The tourist companies also voted Thai Airways International as the Best Intercontinental Airline for the sixth consecutive year, the ministry added.
