Pushing 50 and married for 10 years to the most amazingly beautiful woman I ever laid eyes on. Living in Buriram on and off for most of this time. I love my wife and beer and my boy and beer and spicy food and beer and village life. I also like beer a lot. South African.

We have a house in Nonsuwon just outside of Nang Rong. I work in the Middle East for an international oil company, I am a rotational worker, three weeks in the Middle East then three weeks at home in Thailand. Would like to spend more time in LOS but ya can,t spend the money if you don,t earn it.Every three weeks is like starting over again its a lot of fun too.

Although dormant quite a lot of the time due to various commitments etc, well I do occasionally pop up now and again. I recently visited Buriram Expat's after quite a while, even forgot my password and had initial trouble logging back in, however I am back again.

This thread initiated by Pinto particularly struck me, principally because it was directed at Buriramites on the Buriram Expat's website. The thread has been active now for approx. 2 weeks, yet I am surprised at the lack of response. I know there are many of us here in Buriram who like to try and socialise a little and I feel this is an invitation that allows us to introduce ourselves to each other, even if only a one liner................so here is my little intro:-

My name is Ray, I am English and 59 years young since living in LOS. I was born and bred in Birkenhead (as we say there), which is just across the River Mersey from Liverpool. I was a Shell babe and was taken from school by them (huge refinery on the Wirral...........Shell Stanlow) and put through college from the tender age of 17..........I was like Blackpool Rock, cut my arm off to reveal Shell imprinted by my veins.

Unfortunately the mid seventies of Arthur Scargill, Jack Jones, Red Ken and the Labour PM of the day Michael Foot caused me such disillusion that I left UK in late 1976 to work abroad, never to return to work there again.

After working in several countries in the oil and gas industry, I landed a job with the Dubai government back in 1986 in their gas distribution system and have been there ever since. Although now partialy retired, I still do a sort of 28 day rotation, one month in Dubai and one month home. However 23rd December, 2010 is the big day, already set in stone, when I will fully retire and as the old adage says..............hang up my boots.

I came to LOS by accident back in 1999, when I was invited to a colleague's wedding in Rayong. Like many before me, I was besotted by the place and in 2000 moved here permanently, buying a condo in Jomtien. Shortly after I met my wife Sanan, sold my condo and bought a bungalow in 2001 on the then tranquil lake-side setting of Maprachan reservoir, 14 km outside Pattaya. Very happy few years there, but eventually Pattaya crept up to us and it became just another commercial sector of the ever expanding city. My desire has always been to live in the countryside, I had been with Sanan by this time several years, visited Buriram (my wife's home) many times, weighed up the pro's and con's....................decided this was the life for me.

Built a house in Ban Sankun, half way between Prakhon Chai and Prasat, not far from Ludo's fishing park, set it up as my own little retirement home with all my little requisites and so here I am, we have lived here since April 2006, very happy and contented.

There are quite a few farangs in the vicinity (who I hope will respond to this thread) and we tend to get together at local meeting points, Ludo's, Irish Bar in Prakhon Chai is developing (or was!!). My home is always open to visitors from you guys, just drop me a mail to check I am home.

I have my own website, which actually is more directed to staying in touch with my UK family back home, which I have always tried to maintain contact. However, if you wish you can visit and get to know me and my Thai home a little more by going to www.raymondbyrne.com

Take care everyone................hope to meet you all soon in person.................. cool1   party4

Hi
I'm a little late in spotting this thread but here goes :-

My name is really Dave (or David) and living 6k outside Surin just off the Highway214 (Surin-Presart-Cambodia). I have been coming to Thailand since 2003 and originate from Mitcham,South London,UK.
Then moved out of 'the smoke' to Polegate,East Sussex. Divorced with two daughters in the UK and now VERY happily re-maried here. love2

I worked most of my time for NatWest Bank and had great fun closing down branches and downsizing jobs  confused4.  Gave that up in 2000 (got downsized! happy1) and retrained to be a gas&heating engineer(plumber) working
with my brother until 1st April 2007(note the date confused2) when I took early retirement at the ripe old age of 49 to come live with my now wife here in LOS. Building our house and small minimart/salon
was finished in May 2003. Hobbies include Beer,Computing,Cars/Motorbikes(havnt got a bike over her yet though), beer and socialising(with beer BTW).

Why the Buriram Expats site you may ask? TMGW primised me a beer if I join and I am still waiting!  party12

Like Ray says, my door is always open to you friends. (I think I met him once on a PB flight?) and I must try to venture out to Buriram to meet up with you guys sometime

Dave
