Hi,
First of all I have read this topic: http://www.buriramexpats.com/forum/index.php/topic,8686.msg57395.html#msg57395 (http://www.buriramexpats.com/forum/index.php/topic,8686.msg57395.html#msg57395)
The PM did not say if he got sorted or not. I was wondering about the availability of shipping containers for sale in Buriram & Surin. With my crib still on the drawing board brick1 (awaiting papers, survey for stones, bush-clearing, filling the land, ...), my tools, engines, bikes, feed, seed etc are lying under layers of plastics on mother-in-laws front porch. It's becoming a bit out of control.
In my home country we use shipping containers a lot, also with a construction background I have some experience converting them to stores, offices and even accommodation.
It will also be reusable to move around on the farm at a later stage where I can store stuff in. Use a tractor 3ph, a chain, and you can drag it around wherever you want to.
When I come down in August I would like to get that sorted out.
Any ideas on laws governing occupation of it and/or transporting it location will also be appreciated.
Thanks!

Good question, I believe that I have never seen a shipping container on the road. I imported my suff in wooden boxes, made by yours truly.
I doubt that anyone would talk about building regulations with reference to a container, you see all sorts of Jerry built structures here.

There is a South African expat who lives in a village near Satuk who is affiliated with a company in Bangkok called Container Kings. Mr. Julian has 2nd hand containers trucked to the workshop in the village to be converted to homes, I have spoken once on the telephone to the expat in Bangkok who operates Container Kings. To me, they had a list of containers listing the condition which you could select. They had arrangements to truck the containers to Buriram. Living in a container might not be for everyone, yet my store does use shipping containers for selected storage purposes. I did not purchase our 2nd hand containers through Container Kings, yet I will price this firm prior to my next shipping container purchase in Buriram. They have a web site
I have been given the opportunity to supply drywall sheets, insulation and UPVC windows for the containers converted to housing in Buriram.

That's true, and although we Farangs take advantage of that fact, we still build with a square and a level. Funny how our principals and ideals travel with us.

Living in a container might not be for everyone,
After checking out the site link you have posted, I must admit I will live easily in one of those made up little cottages. Especially when you get old and do not want to move around a lot. Anyway the site is very good and even has a page where you can quote a home with all the add-ons.
prices compared, only 20ft containers...
'containerkingsthailand.com': 47K฿ for the best refurbished and 35K฿ for shipping over 400kms = 82K฿ (2'450$) max
compare to 'Stella' new condition and ship anywhere: 3'815$
compare to 'Gumtree' medium seaworthy condition and ship 500kms: 2'310$ (private sales)
The prices are not too bad for this company, in fact I am slightly surprised overall.
Thanks for your help, I will post the outcome as as soon as I get more information. confused1
