Title: Buriram is so much more developed than nearby Surin
Post by: SURINEXPAT69 on February 03, 2017, 11:44:56 AM
I was in Buriram last weekend and noticed immediately how much more developed the city is than Surin. Surin has poor infrastructure with old traffic lights, roads and poor safety.

I enjoyed seeing the shops around the race track area and the night markets in town. Its nice that they have a band playing and the whole vibe is really good.

Why is there such a big difference between the cities?

I think Buriram has progressed at a faster rate due to the race track and I-mobile stadium.

Concur, Imobile and Buriram United really helped the infrastructure of this city.  Surin had more stores such as a Full sized Tesco, Robinsons, Tops, Global house a few years ago but Buriram is catching up.

I just asked a friend about this and she said that the developer of that race track is a rich and well known Thai guy. He held a lot of power in bkk in the past but is now retired from all that. He's done a lot of good things for Buririam.

10-15 years ago it was the opposite.  Whenever we visited the family in the Phanom Rung area, we would always take a trip to Surin to hit the Makro, grab lunch at the Farang Connection, etc.  We went to Surin only twice last year, versus a couple times a month to Buriram.  I hope someday they'll make the whole road to Prakhon Chai four lane.

His Dad held a lot of sway many years ago,the son is living off what he did.
