Title: No driving license penalty
Post by: davureborn on July 07, 2016, 12:57:48 PM
No, not me. Wife told me a few weeks ago that having no driving license when you are in a police check now costs ฿10 000.-
I scoffed.
Lady just called to say that just that has happened to her, she had to go to the police station in Buriram, show her license and pay up. Motorbikes ฿5000.-
Anybody else got info on this? I'm still a bit doubtful. How does this work, if you don't have a license at all, what happens? Same as before, pay ฿300.- and continue driving?  Or is it the same as for people that 'forget' to renew their license and have to do 8 hours of classes and take the test again, answers 95% correct?
Seems a bit drastic for many Thais  even though I do get indignant that people without a license can drive and still get their accident costs covered by their insurance and so on.
The SIL doesn't think this is funny as his three sons don't have a license (five accidents between them in the last four years with yours truly serving as emergency 2 am ambulance driver). I can see him talking to his wife about this now.
I thought there were fewer cars than usual this morning....
Maybe they will start with safety helmets next.

No idea, but this must be really something since the last few days/week.

BIL forgot his license in  other car, got stopped and had to pay 200 THB, this was at a checkpoint just outside Buriram towards Surin, this happened just last Thursday.

Sounds very high.

Most motorcycles will only have the injury insurance that comes with the car tax.

Car insurance will not pay if you don't have a licence.

Why would a motorcycle have 'car tax' ?
