Very misleading topic title GL buttslap
You make it sound like somebody has already been jailed and fined wildman
The article states
"that starting from August 29, foreigners who failed to produce their passports would be fined up to Bt20,000 and jailed for up to two years."
This will be very interesting and worth following on Thai Visa as it (potentially) effects all of us.
-
Also, the bit about "who failed to produce their passports" needs to be clarified by Colonel Worawat Amornwiwat.
Does he mean .... on the spot? within a set period of time?
Will it apply to ALL farang?
Seriously, does anyone take there passport to the corner shop when they go to buy some beer or ciggies?

Nothing miss leading. Carry your passport. This country is under marshal law. Those of us that are in Thailand legally have nothing to fear those that are not or shall we say questionable stamps in passport.... pray1

The point that Somnat is making is that the title is misleading. "Jailed" as in "already in jail."
The article that you have linked to is talking about the future. Thus the title is misleading.

Well in the past bars have been raided for a passport control (Pattaya I think). Google Richard Barrows, carry passport.

Buriram also. I remember one evening many moons ago where the patrons of a particular hostelry, were made to go and get their passports and further warned ,that it was an offense not to have them in the first place. Some had to go back to Satuek to please the officers.Whom ,by the way, waited patiently for their return.
