You, your wife and all supporting documents. NO witness need at KCI. When they make their visit to your home they may want someone to vouch that your married.

Thanks GL ...

OUTSTANDING. Just do it. Oh yes and 3 recent photos of the love birds at their home. They want one with your address in it. Me and SWMBO just did our 3rd go around about 10 days back. The second photo was in bed, they love that. The 3rd was us at a restaurant in Chiang Mai taken last month. The wife will have a set of question in Thai to answer, they are the same question on his application forum but these are in Thai. As said go for it. If you need any help just scream.

I would take more than one foto, sometimes they take a dislike to one or the other for some reason. Just hide the extra fotos under your pile. Also they didn't like my map (I was qualified civil engineer) and the guy did it again for me. Result: the two officers that were to visit us went to Korat instead of Lamplaimat. I marked 'Wat' at various places as obvious landmarks and he didn't like that, he asked me the names of the wats. Me: what what Wat? Nobody laughed.

KCI requires three photos of u and wife. Also you need 2 passport photos for ur application. One set of paper works stays at KCI and the other to KORAT yes KORAT approves not Bangkok.KCI wants to see a hand drawn map to your house. Have the wife do it.

I have yet to see a Thai that can read, let alone draw, a map. KCI require 3 fotos, yes, but it's better to take more so they can choose.

I agree. Take half dozen and let them select.

Question for the experts... TW and I were LEGALLY married in America although we had the ceremony at her home in Lam Plai Mat. We just recently sent documents and translations which were approved and stamped at the Thai embassy here in Los Angeles which are to change wife's surname and to register our marriage at the Amphur. They didnt want to do it so it took a bit of tea money but it was completed. If I go to renew visa I will not have the forms letter of affirmation and kr2 (not sure what that one is.) Will this cause issues with non O based on marriage or should I go with retirement visa. I think retirement visa will require same docs?? Your thoughts?
-
DD,
Two points, if you plan on doing any any work (e.g. starting your own business) you are not allowed to work with a retirement visa. And secondly the income requirements are about half for Marriage (e.g., 400K Baht in bank for marriage, 800K baht for Retirement).
I have a plan to start my own business so I am expect to change to a marriage visa.

If the amphur accepts your documentation great but I'm sure they still need to be registered with the MFA in Bangkok. You do not need an affirmation because you did not marry in Thailand but you will need verification from your amphur. Even if you go for retirement if your wife wants to change her name it would make it easier for her if the marriage was registered at the amphur (id,house book,pp), By law US & Thai she does not have to change her name. When you come back get a single entry O visa based on marriage (good for 90 days) this will give you the time if you have to submit to the MFA and to season your money if going that route.

Urleft, would I be able to work with a Non O based on marriage? We plan on having a little shop.
-
Gotlost, we had the documents stamped in Los Angeles, and her mom took them to the Amphur, the house registration and her ID status is changed. We will go to the embassy here to get a new ID card and new passport. Are we done or do we need to take something to BKK? Not sure what MFA is. MIL is sending 4 documents back to us, not sure what they are yet.

MFA is Ministry of Foreign Affairs. http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/home. Lot of Thai Government websites are down at the moment as there has been a serious attack on them. To my knowledge even your marriage in the US will need to be register with them for you to get an extension to stay on marriage.Have your M/L check with amphur and immigration. I'm looking myself on this one.
-
Yes you need to register with MFA. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/284601-legalize-us-marriage-license-in-thailand/

Yes, my Brit buddy is working here as a teacher with a marrage extention.
My understanding is you will need to get a work permit, however I have not researched how to get one yet.

Just to add info. Your Non O based on marriage (single entry) is only for 90 days. At day 60 of your O -visa you go to immigration with all docs with wife and apply for an Extension to Stay based on marriage.. You will be given a 30 day UNDER CONSIDERATION (Not an extension) that will be tacked onto the end of your O-visa. This 30 day under consideration becomes part of your 12 months extension to stay based on marriage. When you start that 30 day under consideration YOU ARE NO LONGER ON A VISA. Your on an Extension to Stay. There are two sets of docs, KCI keeps 1 and send the other to Korat for approval not Bangkok, confirmed. Normal turn around is less than 30 days and can be only 2 weeks. When you get the final extension stamp on marriage your good to go for a work permit.
