Its been well documentated before..........You can't buy your way out of it,banged up for the night,in court next morn,fined 10,000 baht,warned a 2nd time it'll be 30k & or 3/6 months inside plus your visa could be cancelled!

It happened to the wife's brother last Songkran on his way back to Bangkok - exactly as Nookie describes and he had to report to Prakhonchai police station every 3 months for a year.
