I have been coming to Thailand for several years now and I wonder, I see many guys age 30-50 years old, they are not working at all and wondering around town without doing anything.
My question is, how they are doing it?
Are they rich?
Maybe working as teachers?
Are they living on some kind of income from overseas such as property or some kind of will they got and decided to leave everything behind and live low in Thailand?
Really, I think its a very interesting question, don't you think?
Your opinion and PERSONAL EXPERIENCE please.

Guess many of them is not able to work in their own contries and got a pension . Then when come to Thailand the thai climate and the friendliness of the thais make them feel a lot better party6.
Of course there also may be a few of the kind you mentioned also.
And, to be fair to all, some occupations retire early, like military people and also other. bravo1
Some people may work in oil industry, 2 weeks work and 4 weeks holiday

There are more possibilities than shown in the poll.
I came 26 years ago to Thailand. Sold the UK house for a net £50,000, (only 2 million baht then), built a house at Jomtien and bought a pick up. Then lived comfortably for the following 10 years on what was left. After that my endowment assurances (previously linked to my UK mortgage) kicked in, followed by early retirement income from my former employers. Finally the UK state pension arrived.
For anyone contemplating coming here at an early age, financial planning is essential. You must have a programme and know where the next baht is coming from. I had a few hiccups after 8 years when inflation picked up but survived. I have seen many others having to pack up and return to their homelands especially those who arrived after the Thai economic crash when exchange rates were high, and subsequently dropped right back.

There is a lad near Nong Ki ,was very wealthy when he arrived here about 5 years ago, spends money like water........Will be going back to UK in the near future without a pot to piss in

He ain't the first and he certainly won't be the last.
Your post has got me thinking though,Nookie. I have not heard of a single instance when someone has done as decribed above, THEN gone back home (any country) and succeeded to relocate back and make an OK life there?
Most seem to be joining the Job Seekers que's and sleeping on relatives sofa's. snow1 snow1 snow1

There are options in addition to those in the poll and the thread:
1. Selling illegal substances
2. Sponging off other expats.
3. Living off immoral earnings.
4. Carrying on another form of lucrative but illegal business.
5. Begging in Bangkok.
6. Making fraudulent social security claims back home.
