Welcome Tommygun,Where are you going to live?
-
Yep the "where are you going to live" part is pertinent. Most internet in the villages is lacking to be polite. If you are going to be in a city ...Buriram, Korat, Surin....etc. you can probably expect reasonable service. Decent service in some villages can be spendy by local standards.
Oh and welcome to the forum. Anyone with a TommyGun moniker has something going for them thumbup

Hi guys,
Thank you for the warm welcome. I plan on living in Buriram City I looked on lonely planet and the rating was not that great but hey life is what you make it. I am currently back in the UK I live in a city called Brighton which is a pretty lively place so I do want some amenities on hand when i finally move over. However looking on google does not show that much to do apart from looking at the old ruins
Is there anywhere you guys have out ?
Kodan thank you I've had that nickname since I was a kid think it was something to do with me constantly playing a record by the clash called tommygun party2
BTW guys what is the rental market like prices etc I want something with air con wifi furnished if possible.
Great forum

Lonely Planet can kiss my arse! I think Buriram is not bad at all! Not as big as Korat not as small as Prakhon Chai....just right! As to internet in Mueang Buriram you should have no prob. We have a house out past Chum Het about 4km ...service not so great out there. We do have an internet shop nearby that gets good speed but am sure he is paying thru the nose for it.
As to your Apt or house for rent I would start here http://www.buriramexpats.com/forum/index.php/board,35.0.html (http://www.buriramexpats.com/forum/index.php/board,35.0.html)
Quite a few expat hang outs in Buriram.... Patty's, Bamboo Bar, Coffee Connection just to start. Then of course there is Tevikit(KFC) and Big C....if you count those as Farang hang outs rolleyesbar
On a side note the Police in Buriram must be quite bored as they are ALWAYS doing road checks and love to see the falang on a motorcyle. I once got a ticket for not having my drivers liscence with me and I wasnt even driving!!! The wife didnt have hers either but she looks at the popo and smiles and says...... "kun chooay chan dia mai kaaaa" .....popo writes ME the ticket ohmybar I guess it really doesnt matter as I was going to wind up paying for it either way.
I still love Burriram.

Hey Kodan
Tis always best to have a few extra baht in your back pocket for the mafia *oops Police spot1 I never take any notice of lonely planet most of the people posting reviews have nothing else better to do then slag things off .
Thx for the heads up on the meeting places If I bump into you i'll buy you a beer .
-
Yeh Tommy
You will love it. Check out Klong Tom Market when you get here. Happens a couple times a week when its not raining as it is an outdoor market. Has anything and everything.
It wont take long for you to learn your way around Buriram and which restaurants have the best roasted chicken. Get the wife to take you up to Khao Kradong. Its the extinct volacano that is the only mountain for miles...has the Budha on top. Gives you a great overview of the City.
As to the beer ... I will have to take a rain check on that. Im currently back in Alaska but would be happy to have beer if I run into you....always happy to have beer. party4
Chok Dee!!!

Tommy Hi speed internet is now more readily available.I've recently got it via a 15 metre mast in the garden....15,000 to install,500 baht/month unlimited usage.

I spent some time with the Brits in Basra in 2007, it was amazing to me how many different accents they all had, brought new perspective to the movie "My Fair Lady". I really had trouble understanding the Scots.
Let me know if/when you make it here, we'll have to tip one or two and tell lies (war stories).
Best regards.
