Hi

Didn't 711 buy the lease to stop Tesco Lotus opening up, or maybe this is a different property?

Anyone know?

Most likely none. Tesco is not Tops / Gourmet Market. The only tesco I liked so far is in Korat city center which has some farang food. However, in any given day, I'd prefer Tesco over Big C.

The Tesco Xpress shops that are popping up everywhere are just 7/11 with a little extra fresh meat/bakery products but its better than nothing, is it not?

There is a thread similar to this on a national forum where  Buriram is portrayed as the one place where you can get a fix of farang food without all of the big named stores.

Dont really understand why Nobby uses the phrase "better than nothing" when it appears that we have a large choice.

Sorry, that was not my intention. I am more a 'Pint pot is half FULL' kinda guy and grateful for more choice.

They have tesco express in almost every towncenter of Buriram, why bother opening an express in city center? They should open a big one, not tesco express. I really don't like Big C and I don't want to drive 160km (one way) to Korat every 2 weeks.

Have you tried Makro?  Good for many things and often better than Big C and Tesco Lotus

There is a Tesco in Surin as well which is much closer... only 40kms away from Buriram town.
Isn't it the same type of Tesco store (selection) as in Korat?

There are 2 tesco Lotus in Surin. The first one is big and opened before Big C. However it is a disaster -never opened with a dairy counter, veg, meat or fish. Once Big C opened, they tried to introduce these lines, but they had lost their following. It is OK for clothes and electrical goods. The 2nd is a tesco market, which sells fresh food, and is in Surin Plaza. That's OK

I suspect the Buriram tesco express is a fore-runner to a large store some time in the future.

There is The Mall and better supermarket with nearly Tops / Gourmet market experience. Also, Tesco in Korat is the best Tesco I've ever seen. Much better than in ones in Bangkok aswell.

There are now 2 big Tesco-Lotus superstores in Korat. One in the same area as the Mall -on the other side of the road, and the other on the Dan Kwian side of Korat -ideal for a visit after going to immigration.

I went into Tesco Lotus in Ban Kruat the other day. Not much really.

I did notice they sell cheese. So do I and mine is cheaper. bravo1 and better. whistle

And they dont have any mushy peas or beef stew and dumplings. I do swordfight.

If there is anything that anybody wants, even if it is not on my list, then let me know. I will try and get it for you.

You are indeed correct Bushman.

57.6km from BRE office to Tesco Lotus.

Always seemed less.

Frankly why anyone would want to go into the centre of Buriram to a Tesco  whan you have the other three outlets just out of town with plenty of parking puzzles me. Never seen anything in a Tesco that I cannot get elsewhere.

It is NOT a Tesco Lotus that has opened near the bus station.

It is a TESCO EXPRESS.

Tesco Expresses are similar to 7-11s -small and carrying mainly a range of snack products, although there is a bit more in a Tesco Express.

At present there is not a TESCO LOTUS in Buriram, although there are 2 in Surin!

They cary fresh chicken, pork and beef. 7-11 does not. They also cary fresh vegetables ad fruits 7-11 does not. In short 7-11 sucks while Tesco Expresses put them down big time.

I would be lost without a 7/11

I see them as a comfort blanket.

Tesco Express flatters to deceive (albeit that they do have limited fresh goods).

Never mind cheaper - the lass in the Prakhonchai petrol station 7-11 is worth paying a bit more for, just for the lovely smile she gives you ........and that's not all she's got!   love2
