Benja: Detained by police after shooting

Maj Gen Benja Wongsue, 74, was detained by police after Mr  Pattanapong was shot outside the former officer's home in Patthavikorn  Housing Estate II on Ram Intra Road.

Maj Gen Benja was charged with attempted murder, carrying firearms in  public without permission, and shooting a firearm in public without  reasonable grounds. He was released on 300,000 baht bail.

Kranthip Jantharajorn, 26, the victim's girlfriend, told police Mr  Pattanapong drove her to his home in the housing estate to fetch a  personal belonging.

Mr Pattanapong went into the house while she waited in the car.

Ms Kranthip said she saw Maj Gen Benja, who lives nearby, standing with his hands behind his back.

After Mr Pattanapong came out of his home and was driving away, Maj  Gen Benja allegedly fired a shot into the air. Mr Pattanapong parked his  car and spoke to Maj Gen Benja.

Ms Kranthip alleged Maj Gen Benja shot Mr Pattanapong, hitting him in  the stomach. The bullet missed vital organs and exited through his  back.

Maj Gen Benja then allegedly kicked Mr Pattanapong several times and stepped on his face.

Neighbours took Mr Pattanapong to hospital where he is in a stable condition.

Maj Gen Benja admitted to shooting Mr Pattanapong, Khok Kram police said.

The retired officer reportedly accused the photographer of parking his car in his driveway.

Why oh why give him bail?

He admitted his crime. It will almost certainly carry a custodial sentence, so lock the bugger up now!
