As respectful suggestion (not a p!ss take), I would recommend getting a native English speaker to 'proof read' your advertising literature. Google translations are so bad, they are funny jumping8

Hi Bums
Well those of you who know Norbi's of Surin and previously Nong Khai will be pleased to hear that he is opening a minimart and small Bistro hungry1 on the Buriram Riviera (Friendz side.)
He will stock top German beers as well as a large selection of wines all at keen prices, along with a selection of European produce.
If it follows the Surin model he will also stock home cured hams and salami's. As well as providing a good menu of jumbo sized meals!
All my previous experience of Norbi's has been positive so I look forward to the opening on 2nd April, when I am told free Champers will be available! party9
As for the "curse of Buriram bars" Norbi has plenty of experience of running successful establishments so I expect him to stay the course.

Presumably Farang Food Paradise and Norbi's are NOT one and the same, yet they are located close by each other and both seem to be opening 2nd April. Oh dear!
As for the grand opening, will this be by invite to known farangs, or will all local farangs be welcome? And what time can we expect the free bubbly?

Hi Thaidog
Norbie & Nio are the German/Thai owners of N&N minimart/restaurant in Surin. Ferang Food Paradise is a second/additional venture by them
TMGW are you going to the bash?? Is it be invite only?
Dave

Hi DDt
I am going and it is open to anyone, party5 however I had hoped it would be invites only to keep out the Surin Riff-Raff! confused4 But it was not to be!

Hi Bums
Well I have made an executive decision happy3... I am having a Bums meeting around midday confused4 at the New Minimart & Bistro i.e. Farang Food paradise on its opening day 2nd April. This unselfish move is purely help them demolish their supply of Champers (goes well with Archa!).
Would appreciate some Buriram company to help control the Surin contingent who are threatening to arrive en masse!

Another random thought......
Does anybody know who will be running this place?
Its obviosly not Norbie and his German side-kick cannot speak much English, so I just wonder who's the 'face' of Ferang Food Paradise??

Hi DDt
Well it is his sidekick, at least that's what he said when I popped in there last week when he was sorting the place out. Although at the time he did not seem to impressed with the location as so far he had not been able to locate the nearest 7-11! confused4

Hi all,
Well,I think it was a successful meeting this time,we all sat there drank good german beer and it was a good time.
The beer selection is great and the prices are fair as well,BIG german beer start from 99 Baht.
The meals are big and healthy, real value for money as well.
Some pictures from today's meeting.
I wish the owner best luck with the new place.
Good thing for Buriram to have this place.
Great place to shopping for wine (big bottles available as well),alcohol and many kind of food such as salami, pickles, bread, and more.. :)

Yes a good afternoon (short one for me due to work commitments) Admin.
Nice clean place with a very tempting and good value menu / good selection of beers.
No local beers though :( I am sure there is a reason for this. Maybe someone can enlighten me.
Good picture Admin....Now if "Rocky would go on a diet, you would be able to see the seven blokes behind him ;)
Great to catch up with the "Daves," and looking forward to the next one party4

Would agree with Somnat that local beers required. German beers are an acquired taste and most of us are not Germans sick1
Food was good and generous portions. But with total reliance on German beer and German foodstuffs for sale I have my doubts as to whether it will succeed. I will certainly visit and buy the odd item from time to time, but where are the Germans? Best of luck anyway.
-
Careful what you wish for.......especially if you run a new bar.
Overheard at the Bums meeting yesterday at the FFP.....Youngish fellow working the bar was commenting that he was run of his feet with all the punters that had arrived for the opening. He stated that he hoped that tomorrow (today) will not be too busy.
Fast forward to today. I went past 3 times while picking up stuff for the new house and didnt see any customers in there at all ........I guess he got his wish ..... :-X
I hope the FFP does well. Its well located on the Buriram Riviera with good views over the lake. If they decide to stock some local beers, I think many more people will see it as a viable alternative to a possibly dwindling amount of Farang run places in buriramsmiley

Agree with Somnat good location, well stocked and good food ... but I also think not stocking Thai beer is a mistake. confused3 Personally I wish them well and hope they succeed.

Seconded (or Thirded). Norbies bar in Surin sells Leo, Heineken (&Tiger,I think) but none of that white horse p!ss that TMWNoTaste drinks sick1 confused4 confused2 steamingMad
The German brews are a welcome alternative.
Nice location, on a clear day you can see at least 2 other closed bars :D :D :D

Hi 'Daves & everybody
This post got me thinking (very rare BTW) and I wonder what approx percentage of each nationality there is is Buriram?
As I am not local, I can only estaimate Surin has about 30% UK, 20% US, 20% Aus, 10% German, 10% 'Nordic' 10% others. That is just 'gut feel'
Just wonder what others think is a rough percentage ??????
Dave (thinking to much & lack of alcohol today)

Definitely. thai beers are must in Thailand in general for my opinion (Is there any place back home where you can't get a local beer?.. sure it's never happan to me).
To have a wide selection of an imported alcohol and beer it's a blessed and very welcome concept. but to eliminate and ignore the whole market and your potential customers that's another thing. and no need a reminding to the (very) limited market here in Isaan and particullary in Buriram.
Personally I love a good german beer, but for the daily regullar basis drinkers.. party9
I'll visit there anyway as the food ummm..... hungry1 jumping7
-
Agree fully the need for local beers, and the sooner the better, or he will end up like most others on the lake.
I for one however will not return. Bought a liver sausage on the opening day. Was sour! Inedible. And there was no sell by date on the pack, nor any manufacturers name. Unsatisfactory! Looks like I will have to remain with Vinyl and take my own sandwiches!

Hi Guys,
Unfortunately I'm still in oz and therefore missed all the fun. The place sounds good albeit it lacks one of the most important ingredients - local beer! Now everyone talks about it being in Buriram, is it in Buriram and if so exactly where, someone mentioned lakes, is that the lakes in the city near the markets, or is it Surin which is 32 or so kms outside of Buriram.
When I arrive this Christmas I might drive across or walk depending exactly where it is located.
-
It's in buriram city. jumping1

Its the same here in Surin. I just do not understand why some locations do not employ a very nice looking lady, to draw the guys in. There is far more chance of a return
visit if you have had a nice chat with a young loverly lady IMHO oldmanwithstick

Last time I spoke to Norbie (N&N Minimart,Surin), he was talking about moving on, so the supply chain might have also been difficult if they continued ????

I was in there on Wednesday. Manfred and wife appeared to be happy. The business partner, German named Olga, was not there. He has left the bar and taken all his belongings, including 42inch wall hung LCD tele. So no more Pink Floyd concerts to watch.
That was at about 4pm. Someone told me they went passed later and it was closed. Don't know why.
