BURIRAM, Thailand (AP) -Thailand had a 1-0 home win over Palestine in the first leg of their World Cup qualifier on Saturday, leaving the Asian second-round qualifying match-up evenly balanced.
The sole goal came in the 18th minute when Palestine's defense headed away a cross, but Jakkraphan Kaewprom was first to the loose ball and his shot deflected off an opponent and into the net.
Thailand was playing its first official game under new coach Winfried Schaefer and pressed strongly for a second goal to provide a buffer ahead of the second leg, but Palestine kept the deficit to one goal.
