I want to transfer some money to GF quickly today either with western union or at the post offic as a moneygram. My GF lives near Prakhon Chai , is there an Agent local or a post office she can go to to pick it up, any help appreciated. Stupid bird broke her ATM card and needs money, only sending 2000 bht though...lol :-)

Either way you send the money she will be able to pick it up only tomorrow morning because its already the end of the day and all banks and post office are closed by now.

Thats fine, but will she be able to do this from a post office in town or will she have to go to Buri ram ...... she will not be happy :-) lol
-
Western Union is your best bet around here. She can pick it up at any Post Office.
Not too many Moneygram outlets in this part of the country and Western Union is cheaper (if I remember correctly the charge for sending £50 is £4.95)

Most likely she will be able to do it in Prakhon Chai however it depend on the branch there, anyway there are several banks with these services in Prakhon Chai so I see no reason why would she need to travel all the way to Buriram.

Just to add to my previous post with Western Union if you go to their website it will tell you the nearest place it can be picked up also it is possible to send the money online all you need is a Debit Card (not sure about credit cards)
-
Don't wish to bring a downer on this, but every village has an emergency fund, available from the Village Head, also sure she must have family/friends?
Me thinks?????????????????????????????????
-
Thanks everyone, nice to see great advice and info. Anyway all is sorted and she is happy.....so all good. I miss Coffee Corner. Hope to be back over soon.
-
Sorry Boundstone, I have only just seen this thread.
Where are you sending money from ("stupid bird" makes you sound like a Brit! )
If it is the UK I can offer a couple of choices "in case of emergency". I have done this before for customers - simply put Sterling in my UK account or Baht into my Kasikorn account and I will give out the cash at Coffee Corner.
-
Hi Coffee corner yes i am a Brit thumbup .If I was to put £90 in your UK account Monday morning, what would you be able to give my girl in baht. This would be very handy. shes only in Kohk ma, Regards Russ
-
Any reason why she doesnt just go to the bank and get a new card, issued there and then ?
-
Ah well, the card she has is a Caxtonfx card, its normally easy for me to transfer money, except the date run out, so need to send her a new one, now this is a typical UK to thailand postal problem....sometimes it just doesn't seem to work lol
The card she broke was a post office money card from uk too

What rate of exchange do you get on this card? The cards are https://www.caxtonfx.com/ (https://www.caxtonfx.com/) ?
So she dont have a thai bank account?
-
Generally its very good, it normally gives you the rate at the ATM plus the fee of 150 baht
so it will be for example 48.9 + 150bht
-
I think one of the banks dont charge the 150 fee, someone on here may know which one.
-
yes this is true, my GF has found an ATM that doesnt charge. My friend Andy in Pataya was using Caxtonfx card and got charged, but he was very happy with the rate, theres no commision fees either.. i thoroughly recommend it, use it my self when im over there
-
Cheers,i will look into it.
-
ok, if you decide to get one, get a secondary card for your partner if required. And get the Global card ...Sterling....hope it helps

The cost to transfer from the UK is GBP 9.50 for me - I will go 50/50 with you as I need to transfer some money. That gives you the choice of putting in (cash or Internet transfer) GBP 94.75 and I pay out 90.00 net to your G/F or pay in 90.00 and I will pay out 85.25.
Kasikorn rate is showing at 48.1375 and they take 0.25% min 200 baht + 20 Baht for inter province transfer. To keep it easy, I would give 48 dead as an exchange rate. Thai banks are closed on Monday by the way.
That means your girl will get either 4,320 Baht or 4,090 Baht.
If you want to go ahead let me know and I will PM my UK bank details. When I see the deposit I can pay out the Baht.

Black Dog, I believe that is still the case.
(but get a local bank account if you are a regular visitor).

I believe I read somewhere -no doubt on another forum- that Aeon had finally joined everyone else and were charging.

Perhaps you read something after a night on Sangsom ! :D
JF Chandler on TV.com is the best authority on ATM fees and his last post at the end of June stated:-
The AEON ATMs are the best, most widely available ATM option in Thailand that doesn't charge the 150 baht withdrawal fee on non Thai bank cards, a fee that is basically is charged by all the Thai bank ATMs.
So - unless you find a different source, I believe you are in error.
