Hi everyone,
I came in on a single entry 60-day tourist visa. I have extended it for 30 days. Now I want to head to the border and get another tourist visa. It will be, obviously, my 3rd back-to-back tourist visa. I have heard that some consulates are denying tourist visas to those who have had 2 already.
I'm in Buriram, so the easiest thing to do is go to the Savannakhet, Thai-Laos border and get another tourist visa. I have several questions.
1. Does anyone have any recent information about the consulate at Savannakhet. Are they denying people on their 3rd tourist visa?
2. If so, can anyone recommend a better option?
3. I'd really like to get a double entry tourist visa. From Buriram, where is the best place to go and get one?
Thanks so much!

1) Some recent reports are saying your chances are 50/50 and uncertain.
Please call the Thai consulate in Sevannakhet to clarify this point and mention your exact situation with prior Tourist visa you have in your passport to get more accurate information.
2)+3) Better chances to get your tourist visa from the Thai embassy in Vientiane, Laos.
Please call the Thai consulate in Vientiane to clarify this point and mention your exact situation with prior Tourist visa you have in your passport to get more accurate information.
Please keep us informed on this issue. :) sawadi

Any updates ryan, i need to go to Savannakhet for a tourist visa in the next day or so , i have a 0-A visa , i don't want to renew it this year i want to go for a Double-Entry TV instead can any info would be great on how to get there from Surin by Bus , and where to stay hotel's ,when i get there .
Thanks in advance.

Sorry i forgot to add, this is my first tourist visa, from Laos.
also are there any visa runs going to Savannakhet in the next day or so.
Thanks

I would imagine that the best way to get to Savannakhet from Surin would be to come to Buriram first and catch the big yellow bus that goes from Pattaya to Mukhdahan.
At Mukdahan take the International bus accross the bridge to Savanakhet. Then get a Tuk Tuk from the bus station to the Consulate.
If this is your first tourist visa then there should not be a problem.
-
Does it stop in Surin the yellow bus on the way ?
Thanks Steve.
-
No it doesn't.
It goes through Satuk and then onto Roi et.
-
Thanks steve.

I'm going next week, so I have no updates yet...maybe you'll have one for me!
Starman, are you saying that the "big Yellow Bus" from Pattaya makes a stop here in Buriram and then goes on to Mukhdahan?
If so, do you have any schedule/booking information for that?
Thanks!

Yes it does. The times that I am aware of are around 3pm and 3am.
If you take the afternoon bus then by the time you arrive in Mukdaharn the border crossings are closed. You will have to stay in Mukdaharn for the night and then cross the next morning.
I found it easier to take the night bus. I arrived at the bus station at about 2.30am. You can buy a ticket on the bus. No need for booking. This bus gets you to Mukdaharn at about 8.00. The international buses going to Savannakhet start at 7.30 and go every hour. Buy a ticket for this bus at the front of the station.
The international bus takes you over the bridge. It will stop a couple of times on the way over. You must get off to get stamped out of Thailand. Get back on the bus and the get off again at the Laos end. Be sure to stop at the first window. You will need to buy a visa for Laos, 1500 baht. Then you go to the checkpoint to get stamped in tho Laos, 40 baht. Get back on the bus and it will take you to Savannakhet bus station where there will be many tuk tuks who know the way to the Consulate.
Should arrive at the Consulate in plenty of time to hand in your application before midday.
Go back next day at 13:00 and collect your passport. The last bus leaves Mukdaharn at about 17:30. Should have enough time to get there from the Consulate.

Thanks Starman!
I just happened to be walking by there a few minutes ago and had a look around. In case anyone else is wondering, it's bus stall 6, and there is a clear sign in English that says Pattaya--Mukdaharn. Easy as pie....

Did you say pie?
I think I can be of service to you there thumbup
