Title: Hypertension medication
Post by: isanbirder on June 14, 2011, 05:00:17 PM
Like, I suspect, several other members of the forum, I have to take hypertension medication daily.  Currently I get my supplies from Buriram Private Hospital, where I have no doubt I pay over the odds, but it means I get to know the doctors whenever I need them for other medical problems.

Two questions:-

1.  Where do you get your medication?
2.  Do you know of a cardiologist in the area to consult in case the medication needs to be varied?

What do you take IB.

I am prescribed 10mg Amlodipine. I can buy a generic at a pharmacy in Pattaya (more expensive than NHS in UK)

I told my doc - I don't get get high blood pressure in Thailand - today was 133/83

CC, I also take amlodopine (Norvasc or Amvas) plus Diovan.  Not sure of the exact price of each.

Unfortunately my blood pressure seems to go up as soon as I put on a few kilos!

Mike - I will try and find the price that I paid at Fascino pharmacy in Pattaya Nua.

I recall it being more expensive than my UK prescription charge (the UK doctor normally gives me 4 months supply for GBP 7.40)

I'm quite surprised that many here are dependent on these pharmaceuticals.
Even more so, buying into such seemingly fabricated ailments.

From my point of view it is not a dependancy but more of a wish to keep control of my blood pressure which, I understand, it quite important in men of a certain age with families that have a history of heart trouble.

Below is an article from the american hear organisation which makes interesting reading.

Like others I do have a strong dependency on beer though whistle

I think, technically, they increase the blood FLOW.

Iodine is detected in every organ and tissue in the body. It is found in high
levels in the thyroid gland, liver, lung, heart, and adrenal glands. It is found in the
highest concentrations in fat and muscle tissue. It is depleted out of the thyroid
gland and other tissues when thyroid hormone medications are prescribed.

Doctors could get as high as a 90% cure rate with hyperthyroid (overactive
thyroid) by using what would be considered high doses of iodine daily.

Doses of six to 37mgs daily seemed equally effective in resolving cases of hypothyroid (under active thyroid) These doses, once considered normal, are now considered
high by most people in the medical profession by avoiding iodine therapy, you could be missing out on the very link that could get you well, The most commonly difficult problems for which this therapy has been called a panacea are fibrocystic breasts, polycystic ovary syndrome, hypo-and hyperthyroid (with or without goiter), brain fog, constipation, obesity, diabetes, hypertension “your case” (high blood pressure) and even some heart problems – most notably irreversible arrhythmias, like atrial fibrillation,

Lugol iodine is your answer, try it you won’t loose anything if it didn’t help, at the end it is safe mineral. Hope it helps.

I've found that the cheapest place to get my hypertension medication is Siam Pharmacy in Pho Klang Road in Korat. Anapril & Losartan are half the price that I was paying in a local pharmacy in Nongki. I also take metformin, bestatin and allopurinol to keep my sugar, cholesterol and gout respectively under control. Prices for a strip of 10 are: Anapril 5mg is 15 baht, Losartan 50mg is 50 baht. Meformin 500mg is 22 baht, bestatin 40mg is 70 baht and allopurinol 300mg is 30 baht.

Thanks for the tip Nick, when I was there I didn't ask about discount on larger quantities....I'll ask on my next visit
It was the Losartan that had the biggest saving (50 baht per strip) for me

Nookie would NEVER feel his own bollocks. He would have someone do it for him!
