Well im afraid to say i just went to buy a new tyre and my missis went to ask the price which was reasonable,i got out of the car and then the assistant said oh car farang and then the tyre cost shot up in price.
-
Never heard of anything as outrageous as that.
I sort out all the car problems. My wife knows nothing about cars so I go on my own. I can speak Thai so there are no problems. I have never been overcharged.
What tyre shop was it?
-
Well steve nobody can fix a ripped up tyre except to buy a new one,my missis is thai of course and she was not happy with what was said so we went else where in town.

Next time use 'Bridgestone' or 'Good Year' shops.drivinggear
*My preference is the 'Good Year' place because less waiting line queue.
Professional, standard prices and overall good service.
That's the reason I'm not using street garages with no name and budget to rely on.
They just can't keep up with the competition and always are trying to make shortcuts on the way to the 'success & prosperity'. stop1

This is a large tyre and exhaust dealer they have a place on the on jira rd next to the petrol garage.

Cockpit has good sevice, and the owners son who works there speaks rather good English.

Average of 1-3 hours to change tire (including alignment/balance) is way too slow for me.
I love the owners family and know all of them but I had very long hours of waiting for simple things that could have been finished within 1 hour in 'Good Year', I really tried to stay with them as I liked them and the service but service timing was too much to bear with....

Mmmm, was there 2 weeks ago after having a flat and chaged the tire myself for the spare one, they put the tire of the spare one on the original wheel and fixed the athor tire and put it on the sparewheel, in and out in 45 minutes and 180 baht. Not bad I thought.

You must agree with me I visit garages and tire shops more often than the average.
That was my experience over 2 years period.
Each person can decide where to go but I only gave my personal experience. drivinggear

I always go to Maxxis. Tyres, balancing and tracking. Also any steering or suspension problems. Good servive, air con waiting room, free coffee and water to drink.
They always come to see you with a list of what they need to do and how much it will be. OK so it is all done in Thai. If you don't understand then go out onto the service area and look at the spare parts in the boxes so you get an idea.
Some of the "small" garages around are actually very good, and cheaper than the main dealers. There is a very good place in the town down the road where the big Pepsi depot and the karaoke bars are. It is opposite a new row of town houses and next to a place that make aluminium gates. First class service. My car blew a valve. They changed the valve and head gasket all for only 3000baht. When you think that a valve alone costs 1000 baht then a good price.
Perhaps admin may like to start a thread about mechanics. The good the bad and the ugly!!!!

Maxxis here in Nong Ki are more expensive than the place virtually opposite ,a big help to is that 'the other place' have a guy who speaks some English

There are some good private garages opposite the private hospital on the left side just before the Esso gas-station.
Some of the main car dealers garages are using their services also.
I had a problem with overheating engine and they found the problem easily and replaced it with OEM part for relatively low cost.
It was the thermostat which caused the problem.
*The car radiator kept losing water but once solved the thermostat problem the problem was gone for good. :)
