Coleman's English Mustard
Quick Tips
Use it around the house! (these actually work)
#1 Smelly dishes? Next time, add a heaping tablespoon of Colman's with the soap to remove odors like fish and onions.
#2 Make a paste with Colman's and spread on the back of a loose tile to secure it to the wall. Acts like plaster!
#3 Use as fertilizer for better colored daffodils.
#4 Sprinkle dry mustard inside shoes to prevent cold feet and frostbite. ( always handy in Buriram )
#5 Mustard and honey at bedtime for coughs, a pinch of mustard in a glass of water for hiccups.
#6 Colman's poultry mustard fed to chickens stimulate egg production.
#7 To mend leaky car radiators temporarily, pour in contents of 2 oz. tin of mustard while car is running. (sounds Thai to me )
#8 Sprinkle over plants to rid them of insect pests.
#8 Two tsp. in a pint of water poured on roots stops worms.
#9 Dry Colman's rubbed into dog's coat helps stop distemper. Cover dog with blanket.
#10 Smear headlights with a dry colman's mixed with some water to drive in fog-- fog lights! (yes, it works)
#11 Stuffy nose? Make a paste, spread it generously over a cracker, and take a few bites. This clears it up in seconds!
#12 Have trouble with ants? Sprinkle Colman's mustard over their trail and they wont cross it. Too hot for them.
And of course, for FOOD!
#1 When breading chicken or chops, add a TB of Colman's to the breading mixture.
#2 Hands smell like onions or garlic? Rub some Colman's on your hand and rinse with warm water to remove the odour.
#3 Before cooking live clams or mussels, put them in a bucket of water with a few teaspoonful of dry Colman's to make them spit out the grit and sand.
#4 Tuna fish Salad without a tbs. full of Colman's Mustard tastes awful. (Pete Daggett)
#5 Some mayo mixed with a tablespoon of Colman's makes hotdogs & sandwiches taste Mmmm!
#6 I always put a teaspoon of Colman's in my vegie stir fries.
#7 When mixing with water, use cold water, mix slowly, and let stand for ten min. This improves the mustard's "kick".
#7 I rub a little mustard on fish fillets before I cook them. This makes the fish taste fresher and less fishy.
#8 Try mixing Colman's Mustard with Tabasco sauce or shoyu for something different and interesting.

Definitely should be with horseradish
(Available for an extortionate price at Coffee Corner!)
-
Up until Coffee Corner's post I wasn't aware of anyone selling horseradish.
Mustard will make a good substitute. Or maybe I could order some corned beef or some ham from Starman too.
-
That is a damn good price for mustard.
Went for a border run last week and popped into that Stafford's place. His stuff in jars was just too expensive to contemplate buying.
How much for your horseradish Coffee Corner?

I like Steve's ham - great with mustard.

Colman's horseradish 150 Baht for a 250g jar. Don't know how that compares
-
That is a good price too. His prices are nearer 200baht.
My friend paid 195 for a jar of colemans mustard in a place in Ban Kruat and the horseradish was the same. He didn't buy the horseradish as it was out of date.
I have seen both items going for as much as 210baht a jar in places like Bangkok and Pattaya.

The horseradish will be strictly rationed! Ray will stand over you to ensure you get no more than half teaspoon!

Not if you buy your own jar.
As it is like gold dust, greedy bastards will be closely monitored if they ladle it over their roast beef meal.

Back on topic, you can't beat Colmans but at 140 Bt for 170g I have learned to live with 'Yellow Mustard' at 63 Bt for 255g.
I will still put Colmans on a ham sandwich though !
-
Fair point but you'd have to use more "yellow mustard" to get the same effect.
-
I used to bring Colmans mustard over until I discovered "Masterfoods Hot English Mustard" it's available in Pattaya not sure about Burriram or Surin though as I havent looked.
-
Fair point but you'd have to use more "yellow mustard" to get the same effect.
No chance of that. CC will ensure that you take only the minutest portion -unless you buy the bottle! hungry1

Then that would make the Yellow mustard less than fifth of the price - even more yellow mustard to play with.
