Perhaps good news for the poultry farmers....or not. Govt. intervention into a free and open market place might not side well with some circles. Consequences down the road.

There was a post on here a few weeks ago ( think it was the Bangkok Post ) where the Middle men at the meat markets were saying the price of beef had gone through the roof and they couldn't make any money. I posted on here that you wouldn't here the farmers complaining who had the odd cow for sale.
Same again....good news for the farmers !!!

Beef is one thing, as it's insignificant in the population's diet. On the other hand - pork, fish, or chicken - that's another story. You'd have a revolution on your hands. 85% of the market goods are produced and sold locally throughout Thailand. Allow the local to bare as it wishes...

My references were to the individual households that purchase beef on any regular basis {nominal}....not the percentage of beef prepared on the street or restaurant. Pound for pound, beef is still not the popular choice of meat taken throughout any household. Sure, Thais will consume beef when they're out and about - but, the same Thais will hardly purchase fresh beef for household consumption. As in: it's not their first choice. Once in a great while....

I think Red is correct in saying the Average Thai does not consume beef on such a regular basis as they do pork, chicken or duck in the Villages . Beef is more for a special occasion like a wedding or maybe a meal out, probable why Nookies wife sell.s a fair bit of beef in her restaurant.
I understood what Red was getting at ... smilenod

I can understand what he is getting at BUT his initial comment didn't mention 'average Thai'.
Now YOU are saying AVERAGE Thais regularly consume duck,I'd like to know where as its very expensive

....I guess that depends if you have close familial relations with those whom raise ducks, yes?
