Title: Football
Post by: Happylarry on December 20, 2010, 06:42:28 PM
I dont see much on  the forum about football. Lots about formula one and the ashes.

I live in Kent and have been a Spurs fan since I was a boy. I see that Buriram has 2 football teams. How can I find out more about them

Hi Happylarry.I like a bit of Football and I'm a Spurs fan too, nice to see City lose last night ... mhihi

We have got Villa on Boxing Day away ,we should win that one  pray1...Arsenal have got Chelsea , can seeing that being a draw,City have got Newcastle away, never an easy game there and Man U have Scumberland at home which won't be easy either  nono. A few more games and Spurs could back in the top 4  party14
Spurs have the Champions League game as well coming up in the new year against A C Milan on Feb the 15th, at least we're at home on the 2nd leg so we know what we have to do thumbup

Spurs now seen settled under Redknapp and he is definately getting the best out of Bale.

Bale is probably one the best young talents in the Premiership at the moment.

I worry about Spurs defence in big games - and bloody Wigan - but with Pavlyuchenko bale and a fully fit Defoe we will always score goals. No way that Man Shitty will finish above us and I would LOVE to see us overtake the Chelsea scum.

What a rose-tinted crystal ball you have boloa.

I would suggest that any sane person would recognise that Man Utd's task on Boxing Day is somewhat less challenging that Spurs playing at Villa. I suppose the later kick-off will give longer for the Xmas dinner to settle...... dreamer ;D

As probably the only Villa fan on this forum, I would like to wish the Spuds good luck on Boxing Day.

Villa are poor at the moment with a lot of injuries. I hope we will get better in the New Year when Houllier adds some of his signings to the poor lot O'Neill brought in. The kids have been doing well, just need some of the more experienced players to step up.

I don't feel confident that Villa can beat anyone at the moment, but thats the great thing about football....anything can happen on any given day. pray1 pray1 pray1

One thing is for certain though, that Ol sloppy face Redknap will get his usual warm welcome at Villa Park.........where are my coins!!! knuppel2

If Villa do get stuffed....so be it, this season is a write off as far as I'm concerned. I just hope we avoid relegation pray1

Al..Villa comes second only to my family (and then only just  mhihi)..

Cricket comes well down the list of priorites.

Now IF (and I don't think they will), but IF Villa win on Boxing Day you can expect some well over the top crowing from me.

I hope our aim is better this year, got to miss the linesman...........

Why won't you be talking to me?

I won't be going anywhere, even if Spuds beat Villa 10-0 tonight, I won't run away.....

I told you already, Villa are shit this season, due to the manager walking out 4 days before the start of the season. Up to 10 first teamers injured at the same time. If Spurs don't win tonight you should be ashamed.

This season for Villa ended before it began, Houllier will assess the squad and make changes where necessary, next season we start again.

We will not get relegated.. Did you think Spurs were going to get relegated when you sacked Ramos?

If you think you can win the Champions league this season, then I strongly suggest you stay out of the sun!! loco loco loco

Not at all boloa, I am just realistic about what to expect from my team this year.

We don't have an owner with a bottomless pit of money and we were left in the lurch by a paddy who thought
he was bigger than Aston Villa football club.

If you know anything about football then you will know that Villa has had the most successful Academy and reserve sides in
England for the last 4 seasons.

These youngsters are now starting to break into the first team, due to injuries to first teamers and a new manager willing to try them out.

The Future is very bright indeed. redman

I hope yours is as bright, clubs don't do well when the tax dodger departs moneysmile

Calm down Tommy...West Ham are off the bottom but things could be on the way up for you  thumbup.Your next game is against Wolves in the new year, win that and get something out of the Newcastle game on the and you could sneak out the bottom three  smilenod. As Adam has said already Villa have got three tough games coming up so they could slip into the bottom three,Fulham have got Spurs next ( if you can beat the 3-1 we should have a goal fest   mhihi ) and then Wigan ,who won last night also.So there be loads to talk about at the bottom of the league in the next few weeks . party4

BTW Adam..good job for Villa we lost a man early of it could have been 4 or 5  whistle

I hesitate to say that Aston Villa are "too good to go down" because I remember when they said that about Forest. They were not good enough to stay up. Villa have to watch for that and need to start winning a few games.

I have also just noticed their awful goal difference - that could cost them a point. I think Wolves and West Ham remain favourites for the drop, after that it will become a dog fight.

Hi Guys

Chelsea next.....make it stop, I'm going to support Man Ure from now on. redman

Villa are not too good to go down, but they won't go down. A lot of Villa fans wanting Houllier out, but he must be given time.

January is just about here and he can get in a few of his own players as well as get rid of some of O'neills dross. Did you know for example that Steve Sidwell (who is almost guaranteed to join West Ham ..sorry Tommy) is on 50K per week and under O'Neill who signed him hardly ever played because he wasn't good enough! Plus he still lives in London!!???

We get most of our really tough games out of the way soon, by the end of Jan, I think Villa could well be in the bottom three, but by the end of Feb they could be top half. The table is still that congested and we will turn it around.

What Villa actually need is some dumb luck! At the moment they don't have any and they haven't had any all season. They were deservedly stuffed last night, but on another day, the first decision is not a penalty (Balotelli went down very easily). The second goal is not given, Bannon headed it off the line I can't understand how it was given. The third was very close, but replays did show Balotelli was just off side.

But no excuses from me Villa at the moment are not good enough....roll on January.

Looks like O'Neill knew when to get out!!

Most football fans think he is a good manager and that Villa were mad to let him go. The situation we are in now also looks like that is the correct assessment.

But what was going on inside the club was why he was allowed to go.

Lerner wants Villa to pay for itself (as will be UEFA rules in 2013), but too many of O neills signings were on "Champions League" wages, sadly they never made it those heights. He played the same team week in week out, so that come March when that final push would have taken Villa to the promised land 3 seasons in a row, the players were knackered and slipped back to 6th place on each occasion.

O Neill was told that he wouldn't be given anymore money to waste until some of his expensive signings that werent playing were off loaded. Sell to buy - he was told this at the end of last season, but during the summer nobody was sold. Then Man City come in with a huge offer for Milner (our best player), nobody wanted him to leave, but the decision was made and O Neill was told he wouldn't get any of that money as he hadnt off loaded any of the shite. The dummy was spat out and off he went leaving us in the brown stuff.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ashley Young is off in Jan, if a huge offer comes in. But I still have faith that Houllier will be given money to spend and that he will turn things around pray1. It can sometimes only take one result and everything looks different, confidence comes back and off we go.... heres hoping.

Looks like O'Neill knew when to get out!!

Most football fans think he is a good manager and that Villa were mad to let him go. The situation we are in now also looks like that is the correct assessment.

yes the team are misfiring at the moment, but i dont really put that down to Jones. Our squad is fairly small and injuries/suspensions take their toll it can be noticed significantly. Our talisman Bellamy can only play one game a week because of his well documented knees.Bothroyd hasnt been fully fit since making his England debut and the tale goes on and on. when we put our best team on paper out we look good.when we dont its a lottery, thats why Jones is seeking another 4/5 players in the Jan transfer window. Its the first time in his 5 years at Cardiff we dont have to sell our crown jewels to balance the books due to our new Malaysian billionaire owners.Jonathon Woodgate is a target amongst others but his fitness record isnt amongst the best.Hopefully he will continue to unearth some real gems as up to now he has made the club millions having been given little or no cash to play with.

It is just banter!! slapfight I told you Villa are poor and they didn't let me down loco

I didn't raise the ante, it was the tool that said Villa will get relegated that raised the ante.......

I still believe Houllier will turn it around, but it might get worse before it gets better after Jan, next 3 games
Man City, Chelsea and Sunderland..

Well thats  got those 3 games out of the way one point and goals 7-4 against

at least the manager knows what hes up against

Under-pressure Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier has admitted his team are now battling to avoid relegation.

Villa slipped into the bottom three for the first time since 2002 after losing 1-0 at home to Sunderland on Wednesday.

"We are in a relegation fight now. The crowd must be frustrated. I understand their frustration," Houllier said.

Practically everything I said has come true..........
We will lose to United on Tuesday, most likely, but after that it is plain sailling up the table until May.
FA Cup anyone?

A chink of light for Arsenal.

The lead is effectively 5 points with goal difference with Arsenal having the game in hand.

It could hinge on the Arsenal vs Utd match on 1st May PLUS 2 other key matches each - Spurs vs Arsenal and Man Utd vs Chelsea

My instinct is that United (despite being 'worthy' champions this year) will edge it by about 3 points.

Standard 'stalling' at this crucial time of year. This is when you need to break out and hit a run of winning consistency. What do Forest do - 3 points from 4 matches against teams in the bottom 6 !!

It is looking like the play-offs again !

I think you have a better run in than Swansea although they have a decent run of for. Matches coming against Forest and Norwich.

I think Norwich are your biggest threat to an automatic promotion place.

Don't think anyone would argue with that.

Spurs have 'punched above their weight' in this competition and anything is now possible.

Sunderland V Liverpool @ Stadium of Light
Good start by Sunderland. A few schoolboy errors by Bramble & Mensah, one of which resulted in Mensah giving away a penalty when trying to recover from one of his errors. Good spot kick by Kuyt. I'm disappointed to be 1-0 down, against the run of play IMHO. Ex-Mag Andy Carroll getting some mild punishment from the home fans..... Lets see what happens in the second half.....

Bent was a good player....no doubt about that.....but everyone said the same when Kenwyne Jones left and we survived that...don't get me wrong I would have liked bent to stay.....but I think it's brought some players on....even Bardsley is scoring goals.....

I have to agree with nookie - Liverpool were a class above.

That does not excuse the abysmal penalty decision that killed the game as far as you were concerned.

If you ever needed evidence for video technology this was it.

Shades of John OHare for Forest vs Liverpool League Cup replay at Elland Road (18 March 1978)- tackled outside the box and fell (slid) inside the box. That bloke had the physique of me and nookie but (fortunately) had a skill level not unlike my own - in my younger days.

Tottenham target more home misery for Mourinho (http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/sports/230463/tottenham-target-more-home-misery-for-mourinho)
Real Madrid saw their flawless home record come to an end at the weekend and Tottenham Hotspur will hope they can become the latest side to win at the Santiago Bernabeu as they travel to Madrid on Tuesday for the first leg of their Champions League quarter final tie.
Jose Mourinho has guided Real to the last eight of the competition for the first time since 2004 but watched on as his 150 match unbeaten league home record was surprisingly ended by Gijon and Madrid, now eight points behind Barcelona in the league, must dust themselves off for the Tottenham clash.

Real have the better pedigree having won the European Cup a record nine times, while Tottenham have only reached the semi-final stage of this competition once, way back in 1962 when they lost to eventual winners Benfica.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has also never come out on top against Mourinho when the two pitted their wits against each other in the Premier League, although Mourinho was at big-spending Chelsea, while Redknapp was in charge of Portsmouth and Southampton.

"He (Mourinho) has beaten me the five teams that I have faced him, but Chelsea beat everyone and don't forget I was with Portsmouth," said Redknapp.

Tottenham start as underdogs but can take heart from their 1-0 win at AC Milan in the last round and the fact that Madrid have lost their last two Champions League knockout matches against English opposition, crashing out at the last 16 stage to Arsenal in 2006 and then Liverpool in 2009.

Mourinho says: "Tottenham are an ambitious team with very good players and a good manager. You sense it is a happy team and happy teams are dangerous teams."

Mourinho, bidding to become the first ever manager to win the Champions League with three different clubs, has injury problems for the home tie as French forward Karim Benzema is out with a thigh strain while Brazilian full back Marcelo and star man Cristiano Ronaldo are less than fully fit.

Ronaldo had been in doubt after he pulled a hamstring during Real's 2-1 league win over cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid on March 19.

The injury kept the 26-year-old Portuguese international out of Real's 1-0 loss at home to Sporting Gijon on Saturday.

Madrid also have Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain back fit after he played his first game since late November as a second half substitute in the 1-0 loss against Sporting.

Redknapp has his own injury concerns, though star Welsh winger Gareth Bale has been cleared to play against a club that were strongly linked with his signature in the summer.

Bale has been sidelined with a niggling hamstring strain and missed the 0-0 draw with Wigan on Saturday as a precautionary measure.

"I am very hopeful over Gareth (Bale)," said Redknapp, "The feeling was if he had played at Wigan he might have cramped up on his hamstring. So we rested him and hopefully he will be okay for Tuesday."

Defenders Alan Hutton, Ledley King and Real old boy Jonathan Woodgate are definitely out, while centre-back William Gallas is doubtful with a knee injury.

One Tottenham player with a point to prove is Dutch midfielder Rafael van der Vaart who joined Spurs from Real Madrid in the summer after finding himself surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu.

"It will be fantastic to go back as I have a lot of friends there," said van der Vaart. "The first leg is away which is good for us.

"We don't have any pressure, we can play our game and we have a chance."

Madrid are targeting a fifth straight home win in this season's Champions League but have lost 1-0 at the Bernabeu to Arsenal and Liverpool in their last two Champions League knockout home matches against English opponents and Tottenham will be hoping for a similar result.

Come on you Spurs

It's happened before.....although that was when a certain midlands team delayed the kickoff against a west country team on the last game of the season and played out a goalless draw after we had been beaten at everton. There are people still waiting to celebrate when a certain big chinned ex tv "expert" dies....see http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=577067 (http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=577067)

You should be grateful for your premier league status......and the football being played now. It is much better than the garbage i had to endure on my visits to Joker Park in the 80's when i lived in the town,. Durban ( a much hated figure at cardiff 2 seasons and 2 relegations under his stewardship!!) and big Lawrie were in charge. I've spent 40 years following Cardiff up and down the bottom 3 divisions.....without a sniff of a place in the top league.Would quite happily swap places......pleeeeeeeeeeeease spot1

Looks like Forest have blobbed it, shame I was looking forward to seeing them up in the Premier League next season.

pray1 Still praying that Villa escape, looking a bit better after Sunday.
Upton Park on Saturday is a real 6 pointer pray1.

Nookie did I miss something? Are you a Coventry fan? I always liked them Sky Blues, particularly when they beat Spuds in the FA Cup final. I was managing betting shops in Bournemouth at the time and Cov were training down there the week before the cup final, their chairman placed a big bet on them to win, glad when they won.

One of the nastiest local derbies I have witnessed, due to a child from Norwich being hurt in Ipswich many years ago.

Could well be an all Welsh play off final. You just need a disciplined display against Reading and avoid defeat - then hope for the best at home.

Billy Davies got it right when he called it a lottery and so much being down to luck.

Take the Forest Swansea game:

A slightly harsh sending off in thefirst few minutes. This galvanised Swansea and they looked by far the best team in the first half. Forest didn't really turn up.

Second half was a bit like a cavalry charge and Forest had a disallowed goal plus a penalty appeal that would have been given if the referee had actually seen it.

Luck comes into nearly all those events.

If luck deserts Swansea next Monday, Forest could win the tie.  redman redman redman

Sunderland manage to piss away another 3 points after an excellent first half performance and a recovery from a well taken goal by Sunderland old boy Jody Craddock. Comical performances by the Sunderland defence in the second half, in particular John "handball" Mensah and Simone Mignolet reminiscent of the antics of the Keystone Cops. Highly amusing when Mensah got a shitty on after being substituted and went straight down the tunnel....pity the tunnel didn't go all the way back to Lyon ....Riveros - a total non-performance by him. Only good point was that some of the up and coming players getting a run out

Then (if you get there) the final should be at the Millenium rather than Wembley - then any damage will at least be on home soil.

Just returned from the City of Cardiff stadium having just watched 60 minutes of totally inept football by a "bunch" if that is the collective term of spineless amoeba showboating around as if they didn't have a care in the world!!!!!!!!!

Until Reading scored against the run off play it looked as there would only be one winner. So it looks like Nookie's prediction came true...........Baa humbug!!!

Not sure how the team will fair next years as i guess there will be a few changes...hopefully " prima dona" attitude being  one of them.

Let battle commence in August with the Tricky Trees, Tractor Boys and not forgetting the Sky Loose!!!!!

Unfortunately I'm used to Cardiff loosing having seen them at most of the league grounds as we've gone up and down the divisions over the last 40 years. It's only in the last 3-4 seasons have we been a top 8 championship side.

Villa finish 9th, top team in the Midlands AGAIN even though they have their worst season for years cheergirl, end with wins over Arsenal and Liverpool, top 4 next season  alcoholic

Glad to see the Blouse relegated, and also that idiot Holloway, who in January called Villa a half arsed club after they made a bid for Charlie Adam. I bet he wishes he put out his best side at Villa Park, they might have won and stayed up.Who is half arsed?? crazydance

Liverpool v Sunderland
Liverpool clearly the better team
Sunderland lucky not to be 3-0 down.... we were lucky to have Andy Carroll's goal disallowed following a soft challenge....but that's the way it goes, some the ref gets right....some wrong......also lucky that Downing's excellent effort hit the crossbar.
I thought the ref's decision not to send off Richardson was a good decision....but I'm sure that Liverpool fans may disagree....I wonder if the beach ball is coming on in the second half......LOL
