That of course, depend on users here, if you feel there is a need for meeting to be arranged,

lets move it forward and talk with other members to get respond from them.

But when?  confused4

But where and when? I hear many people are back at home right now.
we need to think where it will be best for all. usually we are doing these reunion meetings in Buriram but this time I want to take it under our arrangement to boost value for you guys.
I need a natural but well orgenized open space place (Maybe one of you guys have house in neutral area close to the city?) to make FREE BBQ and other stuff punk iconurgent

It will be an extravagant party!! sissies

I will be there with the usual Canadian Alcoholics in tow, so plenty of Gin & tonic needed! alcoholic

Dear Social Hon Sec (Unpaid),

Don't worry too much about me. Whilst I would be there if I could, there are many others to consider.

I actually go to the UK before your guests arrive. I go 5th Dec so on 1st/2nd works for me.

I am back 9th January but that, of course, is another year  oldmanwithstick

(B) after dark, either side of the Siam Hotel there are several "bars" providing beer etc., and a wide selection of takeaway female companions of various vintages

I am given to understand that female companions can often be found lurking in the bars during the day, although they do not officially open till evening.
But are the bar fines still asked for??

I was told that the 500bt was inclusive with only the accommodation to be paid for.

Not being one to listen to hearsay, on behalf of BRE, I will take it upon myself to conduct my own research when the next opportunity arises.

Now when is the next BRE get-together?
When & WHERE!!!

Just a couple of observations:

Date..................Perfect.....................But could someone post a reminder when it gets close as I do not have a calendar :-0
Time..................Anytime does me.............Got no calendar......You expect me to have a watch?
Location.............Anywhere..........Have got SatNav........What's that you say, no calendar, no watch..SatNav?....I am no Bl***y Ludite

As for personal choices and requirements:

Beer and Beer and if poss Beer, if not available Beer will do
Food........I can eat that as well
Parking....Dependant on Beer volume, possibly overnight
Room......I thought you would never offer. Facilities required; Big Bed, Hot and Cold running Women and perhaps a Beer or 3

Seriously, would be good to get together

Did Imention Access to BEER would be good

Hi Bums

Well at the moment Muang Pizza is romping into the lead hungry1 but you can still have your say, after all its 3 months away alcoholic..

I would suggest that it be a lunchtime meeting (some of us are not allowed out after dark unaccompanied)! plus moving on to Paddy's afterwards for more liquid refreshment etc. party4

Be good if we can raise 20 + peeps like last time, including the riff raff from Surin bravo1

A good chance to put names to faces  newargue so keep the input coming, all ideas suggestions welcomed party9

Well at the moment it is neck and neck between Muang Pizza and Paddies. But only 10 votes which is a bit disappointing.

Can someone ask  if Paddy would be prepared to lay on a couple of bits of totty to prance around a bit? this would swing the  Big Bums Buriram Bash to his excellent establishment thumbup  and hopefully pull in a few more letchers!  bananadance bananadance bananadance

It seems a lot has been going on in my absence in Bali.

Might I suggest a block booking at the Siam Hotel. Plenty of "action" in the vicinity, and a short ride to Speed for those that wish it.

Had it not been for my absence, I would have wrested the "sexy girlie quality control manager"  position away from Dude.. No doubt equally qualified, but more locally based. Ready and willing to step into the position if and when Dude slips up.

Hi Bums

There's a quaint old English saying which includes the words s**t & doorstep. confused4

With this in mind and with the powers invested in me as Hon Social Sec (unpaid) I intend to unilaterally appoint Prakonchai Nick as (unpaid) Secretary Horizontal Activity Feature Taskforce. (SHAFT) for short, tasked with coming up with suggestions for late night entertainment after the  pompom Buriram Big Bums Bash. pompom

I am sure Nick is the ideal man for this duty and will leave no stone unturned in an effort to achieve satisfaction. love6

However, I will continue to enthusiastically pursue the onerous task of quality control of the girlies who will be doing the wiggling around at Paddy's Irish Bar. togetherhug

A big thank you to TBWG for the trust placed upon me for this challenging and demanding task. I will immediately (this week) make a visit to the area to check up on all the available possibilities, leaving no stone either unturned nor untested.    elephant027

As for the comment by Coffee Corner regarding doorsteps, on the rare occasions that I have shat locally I have invariably noticed a neat pile already there with a Felixstowe flag securely planted therein.. No doubt I will come across more as time progresses!  oldmanwithstick

Hi Bums

Not long to wait now for the event of the century!

When I made the above request about mincing around in hotpants and stilettos it was very much "tongue in cheek"

However it would appear that we have a volunteer who wishes to prance around in a pale blue leather posing pouch (with sequins)should the girlie's not appear. pompom

But what is more worrying is the several requests for a quiet liaison with the goat! confused4

Ah well, they say that variety is the spice of life! By the way does anyone know the age of consent for goats?  stop1

Good Idea, but it may be best to have it shortly before or after Songkran so you miss the crazyness and carnage on the roads.
Will our beloved (unpaid) Social Secretary still be in LOS?

Shouldn't Songkran be spent with the family.....and not with a bunch of old, overweight ex-pat geezers? Surely such a festive gathering can be scheduled long before or long after the Thai holiday. No offence. party12

Surely, by my understanding of the English Language, and that of others who may or may not fall into the category of old and/or overweight, Dave the Dude was NOT advocating a meeting over the Songkran holiday.

April 12 is one of Immigration's days in Buriram (I think), when presumably a lot of people from outstations will be in town.  I suggest a venue where these members in particular can drop in and meet fellow Bums.  This would necessitate somebody, probably Almog, being there all the time to meet people.  It's a bit near Songkran... but won't add to the traffic!

Do you want me to be where the immigration officers to invite people to the Buriram Expats meeting?! confused4
Also, People hasn't approved a place to make the meeting? Anyone want to host the meeting in his place? (Open house meeting?).

Sounds like a good idea. As someone says immigration day is on the 12th April in Buriram, (although, I have yet, know idea what that is! As I am one of the unfortunate ones that STILL have to work and only manage to go to Thailand for a holiday  bigcry )

Anyway, as I failed miserabley to attend 4B in December, I will not say if I will be there, do not want to tempt fate. newargue

So may I offer a suggestion of a place near where you peps have to go and doff your caps, thats if a suitable hostelry be in that vacinity.  sawadi

Certain venues in Sin City  are of an infinitely low quality, but I believe part sof the Swamplands fail to even reach those inferior levels.

Nevertheless, worth the experience.

Hi Bums icon_must icon_latest

Fraid I am stuck in blighty now until mid October. :(

But I suspect that you lot are keen down some beer prior to that, so someone needs to make an executive decision and come up with a date.

I agree that Muang Pizza would be ideal and will be an opportunity for members to acquaint themselves with the new premises.

Well I started this post with the intention of saying it's  "up to you" but is seem to have talked myself into it so ~~~ here goe's

Venue:- Muang Pizza  (Sub agreement with Siebe)

Time:- ideas please

Date :-   Friday 22nd July, Friday 5th August, Friday 19th August or any suggestions.

So place your votes. Before anyone asks I don't  think a fancy dress "Tarts & Vicars" theme goe's down too well in Thailand. buttslap

The name is Marc Thirifays, from Belgium, and I live in Lahansai since end of 2003, married to Pornpen Tasana and we have two little girls : Fanta 11 years old and Christine 3.5 years old ... I am 55 years old, used to be a travelling salesman ... 1.86 tall, 90 kilo, getting bald ... fluent in Dutch, French, German and English ... usually keep to myself as most experiences with other "farang" were not so pleasant most of the time (beggars, complainers, unruly, impolite, not clean, rude to the locals ...)... exceptions excluded like Richard Morris for instance ...

Although Siebe has 9 apartments I think only a couple are up and running. Understandably he has been concentrating on getting the restaurant running smoothly. (This info may now be out of date) but I am sure many people will tell me if I am wrong! buttslap

How about asking for a roll call of potential attendees to the BURIRAM EXPATS MEETING on Wednesday 20th July.

I am sure this will be helpful to Siebe at Muang Pizza, and will create enthusiasm amongst BRE Members.

From Prakhonchai, please include Coffee Corner and Me. Nookie Bear has also indicated his attendance.

Now that only adds up to 11 when 16 voted but bearing in mind what a dubious lot the farangs are in Buriram province most are probably too pi**ed to operate a keyboard, but they do come out of the woodwork for a get together so I would expect 20-24 in all. boxingguy

Nick, 90% if the farangs are NOT allowed to mingle from their wives ... two weeks ago, I was walking over the saterdayafternoon talaatnat together with english Terry and when I approached a tall farang I had never seen before his response was : "leave me alone !"
The bloke had a nordic/german accent. Here in Lahansai there must around 80 registered farang and we hardly see more than 10 at the market where we sit together for a beer ...
Anyway I don''t care, experience has shown me that 90% of the farangcommunity is best left alone ...

Largely agree with you.

At the last event in December, more than half those attending originated in our locality, and we all came together.

Perhaps the next event should be held well south of Buriram! (if there is a next one!)

No idea I guess that they became tired with the same same routine. Some have moved away some have passed away.I recall going to Surin (norbies) and there was only about 8 people there.ThaiVisa had a meet at Farang Connection with a guest speaker from Issan Lawyers which was well attended.Maybe a guest will bring out the missing farang?
Those of us who live in Muang Buriram can visit these places anytime we wish maybe a meeting in another town would add a spark.

Maybe there is just no demand for these type of events.

I think many expats do like to keep themselves to themselves but, largely, they are not active on Internet forums.

People generally find their own 'like-minded' company and these small groups form the fulcrum of the local bars. That is natural - it happens everywhere. The issue seems to be trying to bring individuals, and those small groups, together.

I enjoyed meeting a few new people when I attended a BE get together at the old Muang Pizza. I have also enjoyed informal evenings in Buriram and Surin.

I used to believe that everyone should make an effort to meet up together once or twice a year.  Now I am not sure.

Part of it is organisational - TBWG is very good at this. Surin Farang have proved less adept at arranging something. Maybe expats (partly by their nature) don't like being organised.

I will be there on the 20th to support the efforts of those who have tried to put something together - and, of course, to do my Care in Community bit by getting Prakhonchai Nick out for the day !

I always thought it was normal to greet fellow-falang on markets or in shops, but I noticed many don't even look at you or even turn their heads, I thougt they suffered of a social disturbance, but maybe what you say is true.  I knew  it's not beceause of me, but of them. sawadi

When you go out and about in  buriramsmiley at night you tend to see the same people.
However if you are dragged around BigC etc during daylight hours you see triple the amount of farangs and the million dollar question is where are they at night?
Maybe they do not come into town as they might get pulled over by the BIB and don't fancy making a donation?

Well folks it is getting nearer BE day, and I trust you are all positively wetting yourselves in excited anticipation! bananadance bananadance bananadance

If previous meetings are anything to go by more people seem to attend on the day and generally have a good time. party4

When Siebe had his opening day there must have been best part of 100 people there mostly farangs and all had a great time, so I still feel there is plenty of potential for meetings if only we can reach these people.  brick1 But at the moment maybe a lot are back in their home countries, me included.

Having said that after trying to arrange these do's I vow each time never to do it again because of all the grief I get! However a guest speaker and/or an out of town meet sounds good if someone wants to take up the challenge.

Anyway, enjoy the 20th! and it's good to see a lot of posts in the thread!

Let's put the record straight :
it wasn't a meeting like I thought it would be, just a gathering ... no introductions were made ... nobody stood up and explained what Buriram Expats meant ... no questions were expressed about what Buriram Expats should be or what its aspirations are/were ...
People just sat there and talked in "apart" entities ...
I, for my part, was happy to meet in person some of our shout members - banned or not - missed a few - but I'm easily satisfied ... I didn't mind the trip ... I initially had planned to stay the night in Buriram and have a night on the town but the "spirit" wasn't there ... maybe another time ...

I had a good time and was pleased to meet a few people who had previously only been 'forum names'. I shall certainly take Brian up on his offer to get me to a PEA game.

It was not a 'structured' meeting and there were no sponsors -  I don't believe that was ever the intention and hadn't been on previous occasions. This came under the typical informal 'get together'.

It was good to see Siebe's place for the first time and I must congratulate him on the excellent standard of his establishment.
