Budget airline ticket prices under scrutiny

The Commerce Ministry wants low-cost airline operators to respond to complaints from consumers that their tickets are not cheap as advertised. Commerce Minister Porntiva Nakasai said she would ask Nok Air, Air Asia and One-Two-Go to explain their pricing practices to the Internal Trade Department.

Consumers have complained that no-frills airline ticket prices are not as low as advertised, as they are quoted exclusive of taxes and fees, while seat availability is limited and travel periods restricted.

She said officials would analyse the carriers' information and cost structures and propose benchmark prices.
