In Putthaisong in Northern Buriram there is a bunch of Thais who come together every saturday in the park to fly model air planes. Mainly they fly planes built by this elderly guy in town. He has his workshop right on Mainstreet, often sitting outside working on his planes. He is building a Piper Cub for me right now. And I hope to learn enough to build the next one on me own.
Best part, this guy also speaks good English and knows his stuff. Claims he has been building and flying his own planes for 40 years.
Well, sometime during this next week it should be ready to crash. So we'll see if it will soar like an eagle, or come down as a pile of tinder wood.
Anyway, is there others here with a dirty past tinkering with bits of balsa in the vain hope it will fly?

I have to see this thing one day..I love to see RC Model Airplanes .
Do you have your own Airplanes? tell us more about this thing?
How much is it cost ?

Did you know that on the south side of town there is a regular group flying RC planes? Almost every day. On the way out of town towards Surin. Just after you cross the bridge, you go up a slight slope. The road turns to the left. Don't turn - go straight. Primary school on your right. This road turns right. Don't turn - go straight. It becomes a concrete road. About 200 meters further on your left you will find them most afternoons at around 16:00 or 17:00. I saw a couple of farang there too from time to time. And some of the Thais can speak a little English.

I just recently started . Got myself a cheap twin electric motor push glider. Those can be had for 1500, and are ready to fly out of the box. Well, some minimum assembly is required. And they come with everything you need. Those are only two channels. So you steer by aplying pwer to either left and right motor. Up and down, aplly power to both motors, it goes up, and down....just glide in.
They break is but armed with tape and super glue, Iæve kept mine in the air for a month...after numerous crashes with trees.
But now I am having a "real" plane built. Fuselage, wings, motor, servos, 2 battery packs, propellers, prop adaper, radio controller, speed controller, reciever, battery charger etc, cost me 11K baht. It is being built for me....well, I have 10 thumbs.
If you visit a Hobby Shop and buy a ready made fuselage and wings, the fuselage allone will set you back 5 - 20K baht. So I am getting away cheaply. The size of it is: Wingtip to wingtip 40 inches, and 24 inces from prop to tail.
RC flying is apparantly huge in Thailand, with clubs just about everywhere.

I was fishing today with a friend of mine and he used to do Model Plane Flying in the UK.He has some magazines that show shops but most are in BKK or Chiang Mai.. Last year in April there was a 2 day Modal Plane Fair in Korat.Does anybody know if this is a yearly event and if so do they have any information on this years event,Dates/Times . Also are there any good local shops in Surin or Buriram for Model Plane,a shop with an English speaker/owner would be helpful.
Thanks

I know, I have been in his house a few times.
I just thought if you get intouch with people with mutual interests they may be able to suggest options or good shops.
When this subject first arose, I found a number of very good sites selling the stuff all around Thailand and it was cheap too.
Seems like the days of 'glowplugs' has gone now, as battery technology has advanced so much.
