Any birdwatchers out there? Despite the monotony of the paddyfields, Buriram is not a bad area for birds! I have recorded 130 species within walking distance of my house, mostly on the paddy or in one tiny wood, in just over a year. If anybody else is interested, please get in touch with me. (I'm not isanbirder for nothing!)

Hi Isanbirder
Despite being disappointed at the lack of wildlife in general in Thailand, the birdlife is not too bad. Although not an avid twitcher I do enjoy watching birds in the garden.
A recent visitor to the garden was a hoopoe, which was surprising bearing in mind my garden is overgrown as I think they prefer open flatlands.
I also have a pond so Kingfishers and the odd Chinese Heron pass through, the only unwelcome visitors are the pigeons which c**p all over the terrace!

Nice to see that DtD is a birdwatcher!
Hoopoes; they like to perch on trees when calling, and you should be hearing them these days if you're anywhere near the edge of your village (or town!). They call their own name 'hoo-poo' or even 'hoo-poo-poo'.
