Buriram province covers a large area, from Satuk in the north the Ban Kruat in the south,, the east to west being a little narrower.
Especially for newcomers and occasional visitors, it would be nice if they were to know where and when to find other farangs for a chat. I am aware that there are regular "meets" in Ban Kruat and Prakhonchai, and doubtless there are in many other towns. Hopefully members can expand on this and give information.
I will start the ball rolling.
Prakhonchai - In the vicinity of the bus station, in a small shop opposite the terminal. 4pm every Friday, and mornings on 4th 14th and 24th of every month.. 4-14 farangs usually. You can't miss us!
-
Do you go to the German Restaurant owned by Deiter?
You can find me there most Tuesdays and Fridays, around 4pm.
-
Dieter's restaurant is very good. Don't go regularly, although there seem to be people there most days when I drive by. It would be a far better meeting place than the bus station, but watching the girls passing the bus station on their way to and from the Friday market beats looking at Dieter hands down! No offence intended.
-
I have been at the bus station venue one time.............at the invitation of prakhonchainick..............I met a fgew local farangs which was really nice.
However, wow were the concrete seats uncomfortable and cramped. I for one would support a weekly meet at Dieter's restaurant in Prakhon Chai..............if for nothing else but top support his attempts to give a sevice to the locasl Farangs.
If you are German, well you cannot fail to enjoy.................as a Brit, I was introduced to a Yagerschnitzel...........gut-buster!!!!!!!!!!
I am interested in forming a Farang meet in this place for sure and support Thad's suggestion................ 8)..................happyinisaan, maybe we have already met!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
as a Brit, I was introduced to a Yagerschnitzel...........gut-buster!!!!!!!!!!
I tried to suggest to Deiter that he just did a half portion, but he said that he couldn't do that as he would be stuck with the other half...... I told him that he wouldn't as I would come back and eat the other half the next day.
There needs to be a melding of German and English logic here. ;)
-
Hello all, new to the site, looks great! Look forward to seeing how it goes with the regular meetings. Am returning to Buriram after long absence to set up new digs, look forward to meeting many of you.

Over to you Ray. Much better than the bus station, where it is even more unpleasant now as everyone sits in a line facing the road. Suggest a day (perhaps better to avoid Friday initially as a conflict of interest) and I'm sure many will come. You think we've already met. mmmmmmmm - now let me think..............!
-
HI i would like to offer our premises for a possible meeting place for buriram expats it is quite big with plenty of seating and think it would be an ideal venue regards DOWN UNDER BAR SOI VONG-thong

In Prakhonchai, near the bus station and directly opposite the large flower and plant centre (not exactly a garden centre), I am told an Irish pub will open very soon. Provisionally to be called the Shamrock, it will serve drinks and pub food. Hope it catches on.

I checked this same info out only 2 days ago with Prakhonchai Nick and he indicated that this is due to open next week. This could hopefully turn out to be a good meeting place...............I will certainly be following this particular subject up personally.... 8)
-
Next week for the Shamrock opening might be a bit optimistic. When I looked a week ago, there were so many workers that they were practically falling over themselves, yet not much progress was apparent.
Basically just the finishing touches remain plus painting. And most importantly, getting the ale in.
Look forward to meeting up there soon with Rayban, Prakhonchai Nick and many others.
-
Ludo,s in bankadon is back open and he has started the pool comp. every saturday at 4 pm again.
-
Hi there, if you like fishing than Time-Out is the place to be. It is open every day from 12.00-22.00 and closed on Mondays. Every Saturday afternoon farangs meet together, listen to good music and play pool. At the moment the water in the pond is low but fishing still possible. Thai food is served and 1 western dish. Take a look at the website : www.bankadon.info
Time Out is located 10km outside Prakhonchai on the road 24 to Prasat. At the intersection in Ban Pintong turn left and follow the tarmac road for about 5km till it turns into a dirt track. There is Time Out. You can't miss it.
-
I went this road 2 days ago didnt saw any sign leads to your place, you should put a sign from the highway.
Sure I'll give you a visit next time I'm around.
8)
-
There is no sign on the highway 24 but there is only one crossroads between Prakhonchai and Prasat, all the others are T-junctions. There is small police box and a small petrol station where you have to turn of. Looking forwoard to see you. Last week a Swedish guy called Daniel caught a nice fish about 15 kilo. There are some pictures of that fish on the website on the page Fishingpark. www.bankadon.info
Happy Songkran every body. ;)

Any NEW developments on the meet-up place/times??? I'm in central Buri Ram and I don't know where any of the places you're talking about are. (Map?) Although I'll be away beginning next week (Aug 14th,) for 1 1/2 months, I'll return in the beginning of October for 3+ months. I like the part about watching the Thai girls at the bus station is more entertaining than some dude! party11

There will have to be another one pretty soon as I will be going abroad again soon. Can we start to organize a time and date? How about Sunday 16 November at 18:00 at Paddy's pub. I've never been there before and since he's back, we might as well give him the support he deserves.

hi chris
dave the dude and i have been talking about another get together in buriram. actually he tasked me with the job of sorting it out ;D
as dave mentioned, we had an improptu meeting at the bamboo bar late october. very good afternoon :)
not sure if a sunday night would suit too many (but i may be wrong) due to work / school / family commitments monday.
at the last one we met at lunchtime, and this seemed to suit most people.
i think paddys would be a good idea for maybe the "yearly meet up" (if we can generate enough intrest that is) but for an informal, but hopefully regular get to togethers, maybe the bamboo or marks new place (just up from the old red ribbon) would suffice ???? comments / questions ???
i am all for a regular gathering, and really hope it will take off, but i know a lot of guys are still coming to beautiful buriramsmiley on an irregular basis.

Hi
I can make anywhere in Buriram after the 18th cos I am picking up a mate flying in from the UK and staying a few nights in SinCity. Its always a good larf to see the surprise on a 'newbies' face isn't it. jumping8.

OK #1 and #2 Dave......what about the 25th of November back in the Bamboo Bar for another gathering of Buriram Ex-Pats ???
We could then try and sort out some regular type of meet up at various agreed places / times.
12 ish seems good for most.

Hi
25th suits me but anytime after that also OK if others cannot make it.

To me regular means every third Tuesday of the month at 19:22 unless that Tuesday falls on the full moon then the following Monday but at 17:36 under the doldrums west of the big fig tree. confused2
Unfortunately, I'll be available only until the 24th of this month. Anywhere is fine by me. I'll PM you my phone number in case you want to talk about it. My internet connection is very slow sometimes and I can not always get online to check latest updates.

If we can agree on that I will post on the "other" forum to get some attention there confused4

Hi mate, thanks. Would like to meet up when I am over. I know a few expats in town and many who do the same as me,ie work uk visit home 2,3 , times a year.I like new year because everyone comes then. We attempt to play golf and go fishing sometimes, sometimes we just have a good time.We all have commitments in the area and like Buriram. We are arranging a golf day on boxing day which if last year is anything to go go by it will be hillarious. This is not a day for people who take their golf seriously, but if you can drink whiskey and are prepared to abide by our makeshift rules you will have a ball.
I make a point not to get involved in the expat affairs to much, when I visit. They are there all the time and have their own issues amongst each other and various places. That is not my problem as far as I am concerned and I will go where I want and with who I want, up to me,but Allthough I would still go in to the bamboo bar if I needed to,the fact that they barred an old friend of mine,a pensioner who is a gentleman because he used the red ribbon instead of the bamboo everyday.Means it is not my 1st choice. However I have not had a problem and the food has allways been good. Will check up on the bike shop you mentioned, allways fancied a big single in Isaan.Do you have a location for it.All the best Paul

You must have had too many Archa's. It was Ausie Peter who had the buffalo named Dave.
I think its a good idea to meet next time in Nobby's German Bar in Surin and once a date has been agreed, I will pop in and ensure the place is ready for a bunch of drunken Bums from Buriram party6.
Another very enjoyable meet including an exploritory visit to Paddy's Irish Bar. I like the Idea of an Irish Xmas meal on any other day than the 25th!!

It certainly was good to meet the faces of Buriram Expats. My only regret was that I could not stay for the duration. What I did find surprising was that nobody brought their wives around to join in the fun. Anyway, it was an honor to named Honorary Dave for a few very short minutes.

Hi Daves (Honorary & otherwise)
Thats an aspect I have been thinking about too love2. If your partners are anything like my wife, she likes to accompany me when I go out( I have been known to flirt with random sexy ladies when drunk helpsos).
I think this should be something to discuss at the next meeting with a view to agreeing to bring partners to a future meet but not EVERY meeting.

Hi
I would expect Aussie Tony and Peter(Dave the Buffalo's dad) will accompany me (not musically).
Actually Dave#2, you have hit on a good idea there cos I know any chance of Peter to perform and he is usually up for it. I will investigate and have a chat with Norbie too.

Hey! I've just had a brainfart! Why doesn't Peter go professional ... he can go under the stage name Dave the Buffalo's dad, you can be his manager and I can be groupie quality control tester. Norbies can be his World Premiere! character2
God I surprise myself sometimes :o

Hi Daves and Honerary Daves
Still trying to track down Norbie. He's in BKK with phone off, sounds like he may have a story to tell party13
Just a ramdom thought. It might be a good idea if we had a think about the venue for the NEXT meet-up??
I have a few idea's and we can discuss when we meet cool2 cool2
Also someone mentioned previously, if our wives/other halves should come along.
Might be good for a 'one-off' at the right type/size venue???

Night time meeting is a great idea! party1
For my humble opinion I think there's no reason to make BUMS get-together in other province, even though it's not far,not everybody thrilled to make this trip and some will just not put any effort in it just for no reason, people want to meet close to their houses, probably most will be drunk after the meeting,so.. next time .. buriramsmiley will be the best and natural choice.
If it's only few friends meeting that's another story.. ;)

Thats a fair comment but remember many expats are spread out across a large area, so moving venues around sometimes has its advantages and disadvantages to some. party4
I would stay over in a cheapy hotel if needs be, no problem party3

Norby's is a great spot. Wife and i and friends visiting from Oz had lunch there recently. Excellent food, good beer and he sells some good wines at the right price. He also has a range of imported grocery lines.
Bit far from Lam Plai Mat to go drinking but might see if i can convince the missus to have a "romantic" weekend at the Thong Tarin love2 party11

Couldn't agree more with you re both a night time meeting and staying within Buriram province.
Buriram province is big, stretching more than 100kms north-south. Before setting off to other provinces (after just 1 meeting) surely it would be preferable to meet up in other amphurs (eg Satuk, Ban Kruat, Prakhonchai and Nang Rong)
And lets also remember these are Expats meetings - NO wives or girlfriends please

I will be "out of town" next week, and will therefore not be visiting Norbies. As I have previously indicated I (along with some others) would prefer an evening meeting. Much better getting pissed after dark rather than lunchtime!

NEXT BUMS MEETING WILL BE AT _______
-
Hi
Bums Report Well a good time was had by all, although Buriram members were thin on the ground, obviously don't travel well confused3
A good mix Ozzie, Norwegian, Canadian, American, and Brits (including northerners and taffies)! Musical entertainment was supplied by our down under friends and was excellent (plug) will be starring at Valentines bash at Friends/SawadeeKrap.
Norbi was an excellent host with lots of samples of his various salamis , hams etc. By the way if you ever intend to eat there make sure you are wearing your expanding lycra underpants as the portions are enormous! food that is!
All in all a good jaunt out, now I can enjoy my Archa in a proper German Stein thanks to Norbi & Noi

14 April works for me. In fact anytime 14-19 April works.
In March I'm still on the outside trying to get in. helpsos

Weekends are times we should spend with the family and kids, not going out alone getting pissed. Surely a midweek meet is best, and in view of the current heat. 6pm would be an ideal time
Suggestion. Wednesday 18th March 6pm at Friendz .
Over to each and all.

Wait blink1 This is a joke right? Forget about these so-called Farang eateries that can't make up their minds if they want to be open or closed or owned or sold. These places do not deserve to do business. Either support the many excellent Thai restaurants or make the Bamboo Bar the standard.
Here's another idea: Hold get-togethers at alternating private homes where everybody bring along a couple of crates of beer and your favourite food, kinda like a pot-luck. For those that would like a few farang beers, let one person do a run to where it's available and buy supplies the day before. The next venue and date can be decided at this get-together.
We all like to socialise but at the current trend, we may never see each other again confused4 I wish I was in Thailand right now to get the ball rolling but I promise that the next time I'm in Buriram I will make available my place for all to have a BBQ.

14 April at Mikes in buriramsmiley.
