Title: US Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post by: PuyaiJerry on August 13, 2009, 05:06:37 PM
Hello All
I am a Vietnam War veteran and am interested in making contact with other US foreign war veterans living in and around Buriram. I do not get up on Buriram Expats as often as I would like so please send your responses to jer4siam@hotmail.com.
Thank You
PuyaiJerry

The reason I'm trying to contact American foreign war veterans is to let them know there is a Veterans of Foreign Wars Post (VFW Post No. 10217) in Korat, which was formed during the Vietnam War. Anyone wanting more info on the Post can contact me by tel (08-7826-4098) or email: jer4siam@hotmail.com.

Hi Jerry

Not sure how many in this area, but think there are some in Khorat as I believe a lot were stationed there during the war.

Best of luck in your search.

Hey there, Very interesting topic. I served 8 years in the U.S. Army and was wondering the same myself. I fought in Iraq and got out in 2005. I moved to Buriram about a year ago. This sounds like we need to get something started. Maybe have a barbeque or something like that...

Wow, this goes with what I have been finding, there are few Yanks in Buriram, and even fewer Vets.

I am not sure, but think they work out of Korat. If you would like me to find out for you, maybe we can communicate via PM.

Yes. Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima) is their meeting place. I remember talking with one guy long time ago he told me they have meetings every now and than.... I don't know much further details because they don't have a website or any organized information over the internet.
*Maybe you can PM/Call the OP on top of this thread because he lives in Buriram province and told me he is going to these meetings.

The VFW in Korat is here:

But these are guys trying to do something, not the party vets.

I know they have raised funds/bought supplies for the Tree of Life Orphanage IN BURIRAM.

So they cannot be that bad can they. Good on them!

Some of us aren't as enthusiastic and romantic towards the ideals of soldiering and murder as others might be.

To each his own, I guess. pray1

These picture typifies the American Solder, (and yes I would take pleasure in putting a bullet through the terrorists responsible for the bombing):

Good luck my friend.  If you're still in Buriram around the end of October, I will buy you a cold one.  I've been to Iraq 3 times, and always said "I've been to worst places."  That worst place was Kandahar in Feb 2002.  So Cheers mate.

I'm a former Marine and a veteran of the Gulf War.  Haven't run into many, well any, others here in Buriram.

Another thread to revive.

Any US Vets, come say Hi.

However, I shared a hole with a Brit soldier during a rocket attack, so Brits Soldiers are IMHO also welcome.

Interesting reading Urleft.. BTW that website you gave is still valid for the Post in Korat.. If anyone is interested then please contact me via pm on this forum.. It is a long ride to Korat to attend the monthly meetings but for me it's worth it.. There again.. I'm fully retired so time is not a problem for me.. I'm an old Vietnam Vet as are most of the guys in the VFW here.. We're a vanishing breed.. If VFW is to continue here then we do need some new people.. Any of you who served in the Gulf, Iraq, Afghanistan or in Bosnia... any conflict you are very welcome to join us...
