The cabinet on Tuesday approved an allocation of about 600 million baht to give each newborn of low-income families 400 baht per month until he or she is one year old under a child development plan as proposed by the Social Development and Human Security Ministry, government spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said.
Maj Gen Sansern said the plan is intended to help low-income people outside the social security system.

The plan will be carried out under a trial period for one year from October 1 this year to September 30, 2016.

The spokesman said the ministry believes the budget approved would be enough for the payment during the one-year trial period as the current birth rate has declined.

It is hoped that, with the money provided, parents of the newborns would be able to give their children a good quality of life.
