They must be left over from last year in that case.
I know why none have been imported from the USA since May.

Did you try contacting the turkey farm?

]Have you tried them..........I've tried Thai Turkeys from 3 different farms & they are all as tough as old boots
-
No I was waiting for Christmas. I'll look into that. Our chicken house is falling down, I already decided not to breed uneatable chickens any more so maybe turkeys would be an idea. If you say they are tough I'm sure that this is a feed problem, so my turkeys would doubtless be more expensive than the ones you have been trying.

Ask Paul near Prasat re the feeding of turkeys,he's been breeding them along with Chickens &Guinea Fowl for a good few years .He still has not overcome this problem. No doubt you will know more than he does on this subject.

Any updates on this ?
I am looking for a friend who wants to eat Turkey at C'mas, he says he can't find any and I wanna surprise him ;)

I tried to find turkey with Paul, the usual frozen places in Amphur Muang, and the folks in BKK. I couldn't find a turkey before thanksgiving. Oh well, stuffing and gravy makes thanksgiving. Chickens can pass for the bird. Anyone found Pumpkin pie?
Fortunately we do ham for Christmas. That we found.

Tops Market in Buriram is where the Turkey was ordered that my store expat manager enjoyed on Thanksgiving.

The turkeys they have are left over from last year...........Last Year Turkeys were costing 150 baht/kilo..........This year the same bird is costing 650baht/kilo.That is why the 3 they have there are likely to stay there. If he was willing to waste his money ,just to have a 'turkey 'for Thanksgiving,It looks like you are overpaying him!!

If your talking about Bob, then he IMO deserves it, even on his day off he answers his phone and follows up right the next working day. And is he not allowed to buy himself a treat, or is that forbidden ?

I don't quite understand about leftover Turkeys from Tops in Buriram, as last years left overs as Tops was only opened a few months ago.
-
Tops is a nationwide chain having a Central Warehouse....There have been no Turkeys imported into Thailand since end of May/Beginning of June.

Thanks for the info.

You appear to have missed the point and the humour.
Regardless of how someone performs in their job, who would really want to pay that sort of money for something that has been in a freezer for a year or so?
I would imagine that they would deserve better.

Reminds me of the joke about monks that were allowed to speak once a year. Year one: the porridge is too lumpy. Year two: there is too much salt in the porridge. Year three: I want to leave this place. Why? I am fed up with this constant moaning about the porridge.

Turkey shortages looming – but not everyone is worried
10/30/2015
A BAN on uncooked turkey meat from the US is forcing Thai restaurateurs and hoteliers to seek alternative supply sources, especially in view of upcoming holidays like this month’s Thanksgiving and the Christmas period when demand for the bird is at its highest. While some chefs and F&B managers say they have plenty of turkey meat in stock, others who failed to place their orders when supplies were still plentiful are worried by the ban, imposed by the Thai government’s health and livestock authorities following an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) discovered in the US poultry industry last December.
With a separate ban on uncooked poultry products from Australia, a major shortage of turkey from traditional sources is looming in Thailand.
“I think there will be a lot of frustrated chefs and F&B managers panicking to obtain suppliers for December,” predicted Bob Coombes, managing director of Choice Foods Thailand, one of the country’s biggest meat and poultry importers.
His view is echoed by several Bangkok restaurant owners who say they are already facing supply problems. “What is still available is expensive, and we will have to explain to our customers why we have to pass on these extra costs in the higher price of our buffets and seasonal dining offers,” noted one expat manager.
However, the executive chef of a leading Bangkok hotel with a long list of events that specify US turkey during the holiday season has less reason to be concerned by the shortage. “As always we order in advance during the early part of the year, so I have my stock on hand for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
“But if the ban continues into next year, we may have to get our turkeys from Europe, if allowed. I recently met a supplier from Wales, for example.”
Mr Coombes, a longtime supplier of US turkey in Thailand, has a solution to the upcoming shortages by offering his customers imported cooked boneless turkey from Spain, which is not affected by any government bans.
He also recommends buyers to be wary of old turkey stocks. “If purchased in June in the US, turkeys are relatively cheap, but they are difficult to handle because of their awkward shape and poor packing. It was a fact that if your freezer had any turkeys left in it on December 31, most would be with you until the following November for Thanksgiving.
“Although the market has changed, there are not many sales of turkey during the year. One source stated that an importer has turkey in stock for seven years!”
The turkey market here is said to be worth US$1.5 million, mostly from the US.
Dozens of countries have imposed total or partial bans on US poultry and poultry imports since an outbreak of HPAI last year.

And to go with the Turkey:- are fresh Brussels sprouts available
The Mall in Korat has them.....expensive, 300 bahts a kilo
-
All these turkeys at 350 b per kilo are Thai turkeys, they are scrawny and lack the real turkey flavour. Jimmy at Jimmys Sports cafe has actually got hold of a 16kg US turkey, yes frozen but the real deal, and at the price he paid for it ????????????.
-
16?
-
16?
That is a very large Tom turkey at 16kg or a 16 pound Hen, which would be about average for a hen.
-
The villa has some wild turkey for under 1500 baht:

Be serious Freddy. 😁😁........ fresh suggests ?just cut? and delivered to market. I am not sure that even Chiang Mai can grow Sprouts..... which are much tastier after having a frost on them......rare in ChIang Mai.
Frozen available in MAKRO..... and no doubt from Nookie.... personally (as horrible as it sounds) I preferred some Brussels sprouts out of a tin from Siamburys in Pattaya.
-
I find it Insulting that somebody would make a comment about our Turkeys without even seeing or Trying them, our Turkeys are Thai Turkeys but are not Scrawny or lacking flavour, the biggest problem we have is that people do not know how to cook any Turkey, sure they are not your Big Breasted type that you have to kill at about 9 Months or they die, but are well fed, no Chemicals or Hormones, try you will not be disappointed! we even provide cooking instructions for you! or go and find an 800 Baht KG one, just like the know all did!

I saw Norbest frozen turkeys at Friendship grocery store in Pattaya. Maybe 5-6 kg each with a price tag of over 4000 baht. For prices like that I will not be eating turkey anytime soon in Thailand. Large roasted chickens are close enough for me at that price.
Still cannot believe anyone would buy a frozen (or fresh) turkey for the equivalent of $124 USD. Crazy.

Have Davo2111 are you talking about your turkeys or Thai Turkeys in general. The Thai turkeys I have sampled are of poor quality in comparison to imported ones, I would rather pay more for better but then again it is up to the individual.
-
Davo2111 if you feel insulted then you should not be so sensitive, especially posting on here.
-
I have sampled one of Davo's turkeys, that is why I posted about them in the shout box.
I have to say that they are very good. The meat is plentiful and also tender.
For the price they are being sold at they represent one of the best deals you are going to get.
-

I just object to people making comments about anything without personal experience, simply not on, I am far from Sensitive about anything, been around to long, but I call it how it is!

There is definitely a market for good quality turkeys over her and I hope you can produce them but, to date I have sampled a few from different suppliers and the quality was poor, that is in my experience, just call it how it is.

I totally agree, bur we are confident that ours will do the job, not big, but Tasty And Tender, I personally are not a big fan of them, prefer Duck, which we have also, but each to their own!

Nookie has it, I bought some last Saturday

Thanks!

Smithy, No disrespect intended mate but I would be horrified to open a Tinner. I've never seen anything as repulsive as the combination of ingredients displayed in the Tinner.

To go along with that Tinner, you might consider a can of dehydrated water. Doesn't cost much and available where it is sold.
-
Ok so I know I am opening myself up to all kinds of remarks for this but I just have to ask.....is that Tinner a real thing or just a spoof.? I?ve seen some crazy shite but that would be AWFUL!

Not going to work here.
Brussel Sprouts are a winter crop. Temperatures over 20 centigrade and they will bolt back to seed.
Best option is frozen available in Makro.
-
Thanks Keith. Appreciated.
Starman. What are the frozen sprouts like. Possibly not so great as a stand alone veg but I love bubble and squeak so maybe OK for that.

They are OK. Cook up quite well. Quite firm. Not mushy as might be expected.
